www.primanima.hu www.facebook.com/primanima.hungary www.instagram.com/primanima.fest/The Primanima World Festival of First Animations was founded in 2012 to create an opportunity to present the works of Hungarian and international young talents who are at the beginning of their career. Student films, graduation films and first films are in competition at the festival for awards given by the professional international jury and the audience. The need for this platform for the newcomer creators is well illustrated by the fact that more than five hundred films are submitted to the festival each year. Among the submissions we can find animations from the leading animation schools of the world such as the Royal College of Art, the National Film and Television School from Longos, the Gobelins, La Poudriere from France, the Baden-Württemberg Filmakademie from Germany, the CalArts from the U.S., the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest and the Budapest Metropolitan University.
Apart from the submissions the competition program of 70-80 films includes invitation as well. They invite each year the fresh, innovative artworks that were awarded at international festivals recently (Annecy, Ottawa, Cannes, Stuttgart ITFS, HAFF, Animateka etc.) and they present films that begin their festival circuit at Primanima. They also strive to keep track of the career of young directors who have debuted with their student films at Primanima, and to create an opportunity for them to present their graduation and first professional films as well.
Mission
Supporting Hungarian talents of animation is a goal ever since the first Primanima. They give special Hungarian awards beside the main and category prizes at the festival to support young Hungarian creators. These awards take their name after the renowned artists of the Hungarian animation scene: the George Pal Prize is the professional jury’s prize for the most promising Hungarian talent, the Macskássy Gyula Prize goes to the audience’s favorite Hungarian film. Since 2016 we give the Tibor Csermák Prize for the most popular animation cartoon based on the votes of the children audience, in memory of the talented animation artist who passed away tragically young.
