(“the festival”, “YOUKI”, “we”, “us” in the following text)

2 ELIGIBILITY
2.1 Short Films
There are no limits regarding the country of production, the director’s/producer’s nationality or the genre of the film.
2.1.1 Filmmaker’s age
The director of the film is born on or after the 1st of January 1992 and was 27 years old or younger when finishing the submitted film.
2.1.2 Length
The film is 20 minutes or less long.
2.1.3 Year of production
The film has been finished on or after the 1st of January 2019.
2.1.4 Re-Submissions
Films that have been submitted to previous editions of YOUKI will not be accepted.
2.1.5 Language
If the film has dialogue or text that is not in English, English subtitles have to be provided. That includes German-language productions.
3 VOTING/AWARD
3.1 The cash prizes for the short film competition will be as follows:
Filmmaker’s aged 13-17 years: EUR 700
Filmmaker’s aged 18-22 years: EUR 1100
Filmmaker’s aged 23-27 years: EUR 1500
Innovative Film Award: EUR 900
Audience Award: EUR 500
3.2 The awards for the best Upper Austrian film (called „Regionalpreis“) is a non-monetary award and does not include a cash prize. The content of the prizes will be published in the festival catalogue in November 2020 or online on www.youki.at.
3.3 Payout of the prize money will be done via regular Bank transfer for Austrian and EU citizens (IBAN has to be provided) or PayPal for international winners (PayPal account has to be provided).
3.4 The prize and the amount of cash awarded may be subject to change.
4 DEADLINES & NOTIFICATION
4.1 The call for entries runs from the 15th of March 2020 until the 1st of July 2020.
4.2 The submitter will be notified of the selection status (accepted / rejected) until 8th of September through the submission platform or via email.
4.3 If selected the screening copy of the film and the following list (see point 5 below) must arrive at the festival office no later than the 1st of October.
5 ADDITIONAL MATERIAL
In addition to a screener file you are asked to submit the following
5.1 One film still (300 pdi, 2000 pxl wide)
5.2 Director’s birthdate and finishing date of the film
5.3 Main credits
6 SCREENING COPIES
6.1 Accepted formats: DCP (2k, 24fps, 25fps, 30fps) and/or file: best possible quality (e.g. ProRes, H.264…) A backup file must be provided with every DCP.
6.2 The screening copy must arrive at the festival office no later than the 1st of October.
6.3 If the film has dialogue or text that is not in English, the film must be submitted with English subtitles. That includes German-language productions.
6.4 The festival does not pay rental fees, license fees or other such fees for submitted films that are selected to be screened in the short film competition.
7 DISPATCH/SHIPPING OF SCREENING COPIES
7.1 By mail, courier or download (WeTransfer, Dropbox, …)
7.2 All deliveries from outside the European Union must be marked with the phrase “no commercial value – for cultural purposes only”.
7.3 We will not accept shipments for which we would have to bear shipping fees, duties, taxes or customs duties, and will not assume any responsibility for such shipments.
7.4 Costs: The applicant is responsible for the costs of sending the viewing and screening copies to the festival. The festival covers the costs of returning/forwarding screening copies.
7.5 Return of copies: All screening copies will be sent back to the address they were shipped from (or forwarded to an address specified by the submitter) as registered mail as soon as possible after the festival.
7.6 Please note: Preview copies will not be returned but stored in the YOUKI archive.
8 RIGHTS
8.1 You guarantee that you own or otherwise control all of the rights to the film you submit to us and that you are entitled to transfer the rights to us as specified in this agreement.
8.2 By submitting the film, you guarantee that all (intellectual property) rights needed for screening during YOUKI and other uses described in this agreement have been cleared.
8.3 By submitting the film you guarantee that the screening or other use of the film by YOUKI does not infringe rights held by third parties.
8.4 By submitting the film you agree to indemnify the festival against all third-party claims in connection with screening the film during YOUKI and other uses described in the terms. This includes covering any legal costs that might be incurred.
8.5 Screening: The festival is entitled to show the selected films during the duration of the festival any number of times.
8.6 Best-of programs: Selected films may be shown again as part of a best-of program to promote the films/filmmakers as well as the festival. If the film is to be shown the submitter will be informed ahead of time.
8.7 Press screeners & archive: You grant us the nonexclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual and unlimited right to make copies of the film in order to make these copies available to press or industry representatives only and to archive these copies. The festival guarantees to exercise this right within reason and always with the benefit of the filmmaker in mind. These copies will not be used for commercial screening purposes by any means.
8.8 Promotion: If your film is selected to be included in the program you grant us the nonexclusive, royalty-free right to show – online, via television or in cinemas, in single form or as part of a showreel – excerpts of up to two minutes of the film for advertising and promotion purposes.
8.9 dorf.tv: The entire selected competition program will be screened on Austrian television channel dorf.tv and will be available to stream online for two weeks after the festival on www.dorftv.at.
8.10 Meta material: If your film is selected to be included in the program you grant us the nonexclusive, royalty-free, unlimited and irrevocable right to publish submitted meta material such as (but not limited to) film stills, the title and credits of the film, and the director’s name.
9 SEVERABILITY & ARBITRATION
9.1 If a provision of this agreement is or becomes illegal, invalid or unenforceable in any jurisdiction, that shall not affect:
9.1a the validity or enforceability in that jurisdiction of any other provision of this agreement; or
9.1b the validity or enforceability in other jurisdictions of that or any other provision of this agreement.
9.2 This agreement is governed by Austrian law. The place of arbitration shall be Wels, Austria, the language of arbitration shall be German.
