About the festival

The WNC Teen Film Festival promotes the work of teens who are inspired and excited to create film in the Western North Carolina region. We bring together middle and high school students who are talented and excited to share their best work with the broader high school community.

Terms and rules

Eligibility:
All applicants must be at least age 13 and currently enrolled in a high school program, including homeschool programs, at the time of completion of the submitted project, with the exception of the MS category. The work should be written, shot, filmed, directed, and produced by high school students, except in the MS category. Students who participate in the making of the MS film must be currently enrolled in either 6, 7, or 8th grade.

All screenplays or teleplays should have not yet entered production until September 2019.

All screenplays and teleplays must be the original work of the submitter.

If the content is based upon another’s life or adapted from another story, the submitter must also attach a statement showcasing any necessary permission to make such adaptations.

The film’s director(s) must have been in high school or younger while filming the project. Middle school students are eligible to submit.

Students from these counties are eligible to submit: Alexander, Allegheny, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Cleveland, Cherokee, Clay, Forsyth, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Stokes, Surry, Swain, Transylvania, Watauga, Wilkes, Yancey

Any submission that does not meet these guidelines will NOT be considered for judging and will NOT be selected to screen at the WNC Teen Film Competition.

Content:
All music, images, titles, footage and other copyrighted material used in your submission MUST be properly licensed. You must have permission and/or the proper rights to all content submitted.

The WNC Film Festival team reserves the right to switch your submission to a different category as they see fit.'

When uploading your submission, you must use the following file naming conventions:
FirstNameLastName_FilmTitle.mov
Examples: JaneDoe_MyFilm.mov, JohnDoe_MyMovie.mp4

We will only accept the file formats listed below:

.MOV

.MP4

Do not submit films in 4K. Please submit your film in 1080 HD or lower. Any film files that are larger than 4GBs will not be accepted.

Films that are accepted into the festival will be screened in 16:9 aspect ratio. If your film is submitted in a different ratio, your film will be letterboxed to display on the 16:9 screen.

Run time includes credits. The WNC Film Competition will accept foreign language speaking films.

Films that are overtly sexual or pornographic in content will be disqualified from the contest. This qualification will be determined by the contest judges.
