About the festival

Vilnius International Short Film Festival (VISFF) is the biggest short film festival in Baltic countries, presenting the newest short films from all around the world. In eleven years the Festival became a unique platform in Lithuania, screening not only European but worldwide professional short films presented by the upcoming generation of talented filmmakers. The next edition of VISFF will present only national competition. The films will be considered and awarded by the 3-member Jury. VISFF is organized by Lithuanian Short Film Agency LITHUANIAN SHORTS.

NATIONAL COMPETITION. REGULATIONS
1. Rules of Participation
1.1. National competition is open to Lithuanian short films of all production techniques and genres (fiction, documentary, animation or experimental) from low to high budgets.
1.2. Films must not be longer than 30 minutes including credits.
1.3. The festival does not require national premiere status.
1.4. Films must have been completed after the 1st of January 2017.
1.5. Films that promote violence, race, and religion or gender discrimination or contain explicit drug advertisement are barred from the Festival programme.
1.6. Films that have previously been submitted to the festival, also works-in-progress will not be accepted.
1.7. Filmmakers are allowed to submit more than one work with the separate application forms for each work.
1.8. All films submitted to the national competition must provide English subtitles.
1.9. Submissions may not be withdrawn from the festival once they have been entered, except at the sole discretion of the festival.
1.10. After the festival, and in agreement with the rights holders, VISFF presents the festival’s winning films and selected films that were shown in festival programmes, at noncommercial screenings of festival highlights.
2. Submission procedure
2.1. Submission is available only via www.filmfreeway.com
2.2. There is no submission fee.
2.3. Only films (link with the access to the online version of the film) accompanied by fully filled official entry form on www.filmfreeway.com and requested documentation are accepted for selection.
2.4. All received films are considered by the 3-member selection committee. Decisions made by the selection committee are final.
2.5. The selection results will be announced in mid-December, 2017. Filmmakers whose entries have been selected for the national competition will be informed by email only. Please be sure to provide a valid email address with your submission accordingly.
2.6. Representatives of selected films are not entitled to claim rental or other fees for the screenings of their films at the festival.
2.7. The sender of the submitted film is responsible for all copyrights. He is legally authorised to enter his short film in the festival and, if selected for the festival, authorised to give screening permission.
3. Categories and awards
3.1. Selected films of the national competition are considered by the 3-member Jury formed of three representatives.
3.2. VISFF organizes National competition with the main award as following:
- Best Lithuanian Short Film.
4. Screening and publication requirements
4.1. Screening formats are accepted: Digital file (Quicktime 1080p) and DCP formats only.
4.2. Each selected film must provide a dialogue list in the original language, the list of English subtitles, and an English subtitled screening copy.
4.3. The participant is responsible for the costs of sending the screening copy to the festival. The festival covers the costs of returning or forwarding screening copies.
4.4. Film authors grant the Festival their right to use promotional materials delivered for Festival publications (printed material, Festival website) and for the Festival promotion in media for free.
4.5. For promotional purposes excerpts of the film can be broadcasted on TV, or on the festival website, free of charge. The excerpts cannot exceed 3 minutes or 10% of the total length of the film.
5. Required materials
5.1. Each selected film must provide: a synopsis of the film, higher quality stills, online trailer of the film, a biography and filmography of the director, a full list of artistic and technical credits.
