About the festival

VAF is Denmark’s largest animation festival taking place in Viborg. It's a celebration of the animated media’s possibilities. The festival gives access to animation culture on a high international level and shows that animation, besides being entertainment, is also art, pedagogics, and dissemination. VAF is a non profit festival.
The festival will be held in Viborg, region of Jutland, between September 21st to 27th 2020.
It will be a week where children and adults, professionals and curious alike get an exciting possiblity of experiencing everything what an animation festival can offer of exhibitions, events, film screens, art, conferences and much, much more.

Terms and rules

VAF is an event where animated film meets other media and arts, aiming to present,
disseminate, experiment and discuss ideas, crossing over new artistic approaches and forms, on which
animated film is the narrative and aesthetic expression. The Festival’s main goal is to present and
promote the best animated films made in Denmark and all over the World.
2. QUALIFICATION FOR ENTRY
a) Categories
Films are admitted for competition in the following categories:
• Feature Films
• Short Films
• Student Short Films
• Short Films for Children and Youth
. Experimental Short Films
Films previously submitted to this festival will not be considered eligible.

The applicant should not charge screening fees to the festival, regarding the screening of films in
competition.
b) Animation
It is eligible any film created frame by frame, in any technique (analogical, digital or mixed). Animated
sequences must correspond to a minimum of 60% of the total duration of the film.
c) Length
Feature Films should be longer than 40 minutes.
Short Films and Series should not be longer than 25 minutes.
Student Short Films should not be longer 15 minutes.
Short Films for Children and Youth should not be longer than 10 minutes.
Super Short Films should not be longer than 2 minutes, not including the final credits

d) Date of production
Feature Films should be finished after January 1st 2018.
Short Films, Super Short Films and Series should be finished after October 1st 2018.
Student Short Films should be finished after October 1st 2018.
Short Films for Children and Youth can be finished in any year.
Applicants whose films are not finished by the deadline for submission, but that foresee the work to be finished by December 31st 2018, can submit the film by sending a preview screener and contact the organization so both parties can reach an agreement to validate the submission. The organization can accept or decline the submission, depending on the state of conclusion of work.
e) Language
Films with dialogue, commentaries or written text in a language other than English must have English subtitles included and its dialogue list in English or Portuguese must be sent as well.
