The Tribeca Film Festival is an annual festival organized by Tribeca Enterprises. It takes place each spring in New York City, showcasing a diverse selection of film, episodic, talks, music, games, art and immersive programming. 

Each year the festival hosts over 600 screenings with approximately 150,000 attendees and awards independent artists in 23 juried competitive categories

Tribeca was founded by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff in 2001 to spur the economic and cultural revitalization of lower Manhattan following the attacks on the World Trade Center.

Awards
In 2019, cash awards totaled $165,000, in addition to over $91,500 in artwork. Awards for the TFF20 may be modified.
Rules

  •  Projects completed after 01-january-2020
  •  Must be at least a U.S. Premiere to be eligible for the Narrative Feature or Documentary Feature Awards, but entries which are World, International, North American and U.S. Premieres may be given priority.
  •  Submissions may be in work-in-progress form; however, films that are not final cuts must be clearly marked Work in Progress (“WIP”) or Rough Cut with an indication of what will change or what is missing (e.g., temp sound, Avid output, missing animation, etc.) either indicated in the film cut itself or within the copy display in the streaming link.
  •  The project MUST maintain at minimum a North American premiere status prior to TFF19

TRIBECA: TV:

  •  All submitted episodes must be 20 minutes or longer in length.
    Tribeca Immersive Category (these may range from virtual reality projects to cross-platform films, websites, multi-media installations, games and apps)
    Documents and Other Requisite Items
  • Complete the online submissions form,
  • Pay entry fees,
  •  Provide a password protected streaming link of the film. If physically submitting your film, you must follow the prompts in the online entry form to contact the Festival programming team. You will then receive instructions for submitting physical copies of your film and completing your entry.
  •  Subtitle language: English.
  • Premiere Requirements
    National premiere required.

Feature-length films must be at least 40 minutes in length and maintain at least a New York "Regional" premiere status prior to screening in Tribeca. NOTE: The Late Deadline is deadline is available to films which have not been screened publicly or otherwise distributed anywhere at the time of submission. To be eligible for this deadline, Feature-length films must be a world premiere at the time of submission.

A platform for independent filmmaking, creative expression and immersive entertainment, Tribeca Film Festival (the “Festival”) supports emerging and established voices, discovers award-winning filmmakers, curates innovative and interactive experiences, and introduces new technology and ideas through panels, premieres, exhibitions, and live performance. Eligible projects include: short films (run time < 40 minutes); including documentaries, narratives, animation, and experimental films. Tribeca exhibits immersive projects throughout the festival to showcase new forms and uses of emerging media, highlighting innovation across a variety of platforms. Submissions will be considered for the Tribeca Virtual Arcade (for mobile and room-scale VR and/or XR projects), for which all World Premiere selections will be eligible for the annual Storyscapes Award. We will also be considering mobile VR/360 projects for our Cinema360 section. Project creators will also be considered for the NOW Creators Market, a private industry market that brings together leading storytellers to pitch new projects to a wide range of industry, including distributors, agencies, and more. Tribeca NOW is a platform that discovers, highlights, and celebrates independent episodic work, including short and long form pilots/series, of both narrative and documentary genres. Submitted projects must show the potential for serial growth. Filmmakers submitting to Tribeca NOW will also be considered for the NOW Creators Market, a private industry market held during TFF that brings together leading and emerging storytellers to pitch new projects to and network with a wide range of industry. Interested participants must have prepared pitch materials in advance. All Official Selections of the Tribeca NOW section will receive an automatic invitation to the NOW Creators Market. The Tribeca X Award is a juried award for storytelling supported by a brand recognizing the intersection of advertising and entertainment. The Tribeca X Award is open to all work funded with support of a brand in collaboration with artists or filmmakers. The finalists will be recognized by the Tribeca Film Festival, and a jury will award the winning selection at the Festival. Eligible projects include scripted and documentary work for film, TV, digital, social, and VR/AR, in both feature or short length. Submitted projects must have a storytelling element; projects that are strictly intended as commercial spots will not be considered.
