About the festival

OUR MISSION:
Fostering global community through Earth-minded film and art with clean energy and zero waste goals. Our goal, first and foremost, is to honor the Earth in each step of the process. The Earth Day Film Festival uses only renewable energy to power screenings, partners with organizations with integrity, and facilitates grassroots screenings around the world. We connect passionate filmmakers with inspired audiences. We are merely amplifiers of your dynamic messages of global community, environmental action, and peace.

FILM FESTIVAL:
The Earth Day Film Festival is held at the Pageant Theater in Chico, California in March 12-15, 2020. Selected films are grouped with thematically complementary films and screened as a curation block.

YOUR FILM:
Films capture images and stories that have the capacity to inspire action. Art is a voice for social change and a potent way to convey ideas and experiences. The films and art we share reflect a diverse earthly experience. We support all filmmakers’ interpretations; give us your earthly vision however you see it.

ABOUT US:
The hands and hearts behind The Earth Day Film Festival are a group of artists, activists, optimists, and earth-loving souls. We have joined together to nourish this festival as our artistic contribution to the environmental movement. We are partnered with organizations such as Bioneers, The Biomimicry institute, and Arcadia Power. We recognize that the work of creating a healthier planet will require a collaborative effort.

The Earth Day Film Festival honors selected films with awards such as "Best Cinematography", "Best Editing" and "Best Sound". In addition, The Earth Day Film Festival has several unique, original awards:

"The Earth's Choice Award":
The winning film is made with the Earth in mind- from conception to final film. Consideration is given to energy usage, waste, and environmental impact. The final message is typically feminine in tone, not a direct way of speaking but one that is nurturing and loving as is Mother Earth. The recipient of this award is given temporary custody of the "Earth's Choice" custom trophy with their name engraved below previous recipient.

"The Activist Award":
This award honors filmmakers who are using their art to affect change in the world. The winning film illuminates unjust or repressive systems and calls for action. The filmmakers tactics, including their partnerships, methods and post-production journey are taken into consideration for this award.

"The New Paradigm Award":
The recipient of this award answers the question: 'what's next?'. After activism draws attention to areas in need of change, a new paradigm is needed to exemplify a more harmonious and healthier relationship with Earth. The selected film has a tone of nurturance and hope.
