About the festival

Founded in 2018 by Culture and Education Foundation and the National Youth and Children’s Palace, Taoba International Youth Film Festival is largest festival of its kind in Georgia. Taoba is focused on development of young audience and promotion of film education, programmers pay special attention to educational values of each film screened at festival, that will spark discussions on social topics.

The vision of Taoba is to enable the development young people’s critical, creative and analytical thinking skills and stimulate dialogue between them on important social issues through film.

The festival aims to stimulate social changes and facilitate the talents of young people by means of master classes and lectures, as well as their participation in foreign film festivals.

Taoba received EFFE Label 2019-2020 that is Europe’s quality stamp for remarkable arts festivals showing their engagement in the field of the arts, community involvement and international openness.

Brief information about Taoba 2019:
2nd edition of Taoba International Youth Film Festival held in Tbilisi on April 11-15. About 300, 13-18 years old, young people from 6 countries (Georgia, Italy, Macedonia, Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan) participated in main program of festival daily.

4 feature and 28 short films in international competitions has been screened followed by 8 hours of discussion sessions. In the framework of main educational program lectures and masterclasses conducted with total duration of 31 hours.

About 50 students were selected for the pilot project “Taoba Academy” and 8 hours of masterclasses from film professionals were provided to them.

In partnership with the French Institute of Georgia, Goethe-Institut Georgien and Fabrika screenings for general public were organized.

Taoba had an honor to organize screening of “Rezo” a film by famous Georgian film director Levan Gabriadze followed by Q&A with the director.

Within “Young Georgian Talent” section, participants had Q&A session with Luca Chikovani, Georgian singer and actor living in Italy. Luca played one of the leading roles in “Lazzaro Felice” a film by Alice Rohrwacher, that won best screenplay at Cannes 2018.
Entertaining program included joint intellectual game with TV show BOOKS’SHELF, DJ set, concert of Tony Memmel and his band (with support of U.S Embassy Tbilisi), concert of Georgian music band “Ara”.

Terms and rules

GENERAL RULES

The following is an explanation of rules and regulations (“Rules and Regulations”) governing the submission of films (hereafter referred to as “Film”) to Culture and Education Foundation (hereafter referred to as “CEF”) for consideration for the 2020 Taoba International Youth Film Festival (hereafter referred to as “Festival”).

By agreeing to the Terms And Conditions, the entity submitting the Film (hereafter called the “Applicant”) acknowledges that he or she has obtained consent from any and all owners, creators, writers, Producers and/or other authorized representatives of the Film (hereafter called the “Film’s Owners”) whose consent is required to submit the Film to the CEF, and has read and understood the submission rules and regulations set forth below:

I. GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS:
1) Films completed prior to January 1, 2017, are not eligible for consideration for the 2020 edition of the Festival.
2) It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to secure authorization and permission from the copyright owner(s) of any and all copyrighted content or materials included within the submitted Film. CEF will not be held responsible for any unauthorized inclusion of any copyrighted content or materials within or relating to the submitted Film, including any content or materials that are or may become the basis for any third-party claims for copyright infringement.
3) It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to secure authorization and permission from the owner(s) of any and all trademarked content or materials included within the submitted Film. CEF will not be held responsible for any unauthorized inclusion of any trademarked content or materials within or relating to the submitted Film, including any content or materials that are or may become the basis for any third-party claims for trademark infringement, trademark dilution or unfair competition.
4) Submitted Films should be in English or in original language with on-screen English subtitles.
5) CEF does not pay screening fees for Films submitted for Festival consideration.
6) All Festival screenings are also free of charge.
7) Upon completion of the Festival selection process (no later than February 10, 2019), CEF will attempt to contact the Applicant using the contact information provided on the submission form to notify the Applicant of the Film’s acceptance status. CEF will not be held responsible for any failure to contact the Applicant using the contact information provided on the submission form. It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to ensure that the contact information provided on the submission form is correct throughout the entirety of The Festival selection period.
8) CEF is under no obligation to provide to the Applicant or any other representative of the Film any comments or feedback regarding the submitted Film, any information relating to the manner in which the Film is, will be, or was reviewed;

II SUBMISSION RULES FOR THE FILMS SELECTED FOR FESTIVAL SCREENINGS:
Applicants whose Films are accepted are required to submit Films for festival screenings to CEF by post on a single disc (Blu-ray or DVD), or through internet by sending working download link.

Submissions by post:
1) It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to ensure that any disc submitted to CEF for Festival screening plays in its entirety on an industry standard Blu-ray or DVD player. In the event that a submitted disc does not play on an industry standard Blu-ray or DVD player, CEF reserves the right to disqualify Applicant.

2) It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to ensure that the submitted disc arrives at the shipping destination provided by CEF. In the event that a submitted disc does not arrive at the designated shipping destination within one month after receiving notification from CEF about successful selection of his/her Film, CEF reserves the right to disqualify Applicant.

Submissions through internet:
1) It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to ensure that any Film submitted through internet has a working download link. In the event of technical problems during downloading the Film through provided link, CEF reserves the right to disqualify Applicant.

2) It is the sole responsibility of the Applicant to ensure that any Film submitted through internet plays in its entirety on an industry standard laptop or personal computer. In the event that a submitted Film does not play on an industry standard laptop or personal computer, CEF reserves the right to disqualify Applicant.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Culture and Education Foundation is hereby granted the right to utilize an excerpt from any film submitted and accepted for exhibition at the Taoba International Youth Film Festival for promotional purposes.

The individual or corporation submitting the film hereby warrants that it is authorized to commit the film for screening (including but not limited to multiple screenings in multiple locations), and understands and accepts these requirements and regulations.
The undersigned shall indemnify and hold harmless Culture and Education Foundation (Taoba International Youth Film Festival) from and against any and all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, screening, and loss of or damage to the screening videos entered.

Any work of fiction of with a running time of 50 minutes or more. In order to qualify as an International Feature Film, the submitted Film must be either scripted or improvisational fiction. Films completed prior to January 1, 2017, are not eligible for consideration for the 2020 edition of the Festival.

International Documentary Feature Films

Any non-fiction documentary film with a running time of 50 minutes or more, with the exception of entirely scripted or improvised fictionalizations of actual events. Films completed prior to January 1, 2017, are not eligible for consideration for the 2020 edition of the Festival.

Any fiction film with a running time of less than 50 minutes, including credits. Films completed prior to January 1, 2017, are not eligible for consideration for the 2020 edition of the Festival.
