About the festival

St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival (SJIWFF) is one of the longest-running women’s film festivals in the world.

Established in 1989 with a bold vision of supporting and promoting women filmmakers from around the globe, our year-round operations include film screenings, high-calibre workshops, film conferences, youth-focused filmmaking camps, and career-accelerating mentorship programs. All of this culminates in a five-day international film festival and forum held every October in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. These dynamic events attract over 6,500 annual guests.

Celebrated as the province’s flagship film festival, the annual Festival receives over 400 film submissions annually and from those, they share a powerful program of international documentaries, short films and feature work written and/or directed by women.

Celebrate 32 years of films made by women, for everyone from October 13-17, 2021.

St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival is a non-competitive festival, committed to supporting artists.

For over three decades, SJIWFF has been known for its commitment to presenting high-quality, professional film screenings, paying filmmakers, and overall industry excellence. Our experienced technical team are experts in their field and take your work seriously. Ensuring the best quality for our screenings and the best experience for our filmmakers is our focus.
