About the festival

Since 1996, the extraordinary, brand-new and diverse productions at the SCHLINGEL International Film Festival for Children and Young Audiences have been drawing thousands of young and old cineasts from Chemnitz and all around the world to the CineStar in the Galerie Roter Turm.

The IFF SCHLINGEL offers a challenging and varied fringe programme to accompany the first-class viewing delights, with podium discussions, talks, workshops and exhibitions. There is a particular emphasis on educational sessions on film and media for kindergartens and schools; through practical activities, the participants are given an insight into topics such as film production, using a camera and equipment or writing reviews. Accredited trade visitors also bring themselves up to date with the latest trends and issues relating to children’s and young adult films at seminars and the industry forum, where they can exchange views with each other in lively discussions. Furthermore film crews accompany their productions to the Saxon city and answer the public’s questions after their screenings.

In addition to the annual staging of the SCHLINGEL International Film Festival, matinee tours have been established across Saxony. Selected productions are brought to a larger international audience outside the festival as well. This is the aim behind diverse international film presentations, for example in China, Israel, Canada and Russia.

FF SCHLINGEL is co-organized by Sächsische Landesanstalt für privaten Rundfunk und neue Medien (SLM)

11 children, youth and professional juries will award 19 prizes worth all together 64,000 euros. Most of them are given as supporting awards, i.e. the prize money has to be used for a dubbed version to make the film available for the German audience. In the German movie market dubbing is the dominating standard for transferring foreign-language films into German.

In the competitions, money and material prizes will be awarded.
