RIFFA -2020 SUBMISSION TERMS & CONDITIONS
Submissions to the 2020 Regina International Film Festival & Awards (RIFFA) should be made through FilmFreeway based on the following terms. Any questions about these terms should be directed to programme@riffa.ca
SUBMISSION AGREEMENT
1. By submitting a film to RIFFA for the 2020 Festival, the submitter (the “Applicant”) represents that he or she has obtained the necessary consent from all owners, creators, writers, producers and/or other authorized representatives of the film (‘’The Film Owners’’) and has agreed to the terms. By submitting films to RIFFA under any categories, applicants automatically agree that the ‘’Film Owner’’ will be responsible for any associated legal, financial and ethical implications (claim) associated public exhibition at a film festival.
2. RIFFA may disqualify or reject submissions that it determines are not in compliance with these terms, and may do so without refunding submission fees.
3. RIFFA will not pay screening fees for any selected films.
4. Winners who receive a RIFFA Statuette will have a period of three (3) years to collect the Statuette, in person or via a delegate. RIFFA, without exception, will not ship/transport or incur related costs for delivery of the Statuette.
5. RIFFA reserves all rights to make changes to any festival aspects including the rules and regulation without any prior notification.
GENERAL SUBMISSION INFORMATION
A. Films submitted to RIFFA for Festival consideration must be entered in ONE of the categories set out below. Please read the individual category descriptions below before submitting. Films that do not meet the eligibility requirements will not be considered by RIFFA.
B. Applicants who submit a film to the Indigenous Short Film Category may submit the same film in more than one category, providing eligibility requirements are met.
C. If your film is accepted, RIFFA reserves the right to decide which category is best suited for your project.
D. All sections of The Submission Form must be filled out. RIFFA reserves the right to consider incomplete submissions as ineligible.
E. In the case of entries of five or less in any category, the festival reserves the right to transfer those entries into another category and to remove the original category.
F. Only submissions submitted digitally will be accepted.
G. Any language other than English used in the film must have English subtitles.
H. Films that have been submitted to RIFFA in previous years are not eligible.
I. A secured Vimeo Link and password to watch the film can be requested anytime during the selection process regardless of your screening status on FilmFreeway.
J. Final decisions on submissions made through FilmFreeway will be notified through FilmFreeway. Note that RIFFA may notify the filmmaker at any point prior to the official notification date.
K. A film may not be withdrawn after accepting an invitation to screen at the Regina International Film Festival and Awards.
OFFICIALLY SELECTED MOVIES WILL NEED TO SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING:
1. A secured download link to download the film for the exhibition.
2. We accept the following Exhibition formats: an online download link (HD Video file) for short films: Blue- Ray for Feature films (Blue-Ray will not be returned to the applicant). Under exceptional circumstances, we will consider a DCP (DCP will be returned at applicant's expense). The applicant must submit a written request at the time of submission. No other formats will be accepted for exhibition.
3. Digital Press Kit: the Applicant's official selection letter will be accompanied by a list of specific requirements. However, we strongly encourage applicants to submit a complete digital press kit at the time of submission.

FEATURES
CANADIAN FEATURE
Any narrative fiction film of any genre, on any subject directed by a Canadian or permanent citizen and produced or co-produced in Canada. The submitted project must be either scripted or improvisational fiction. Submissions must have a minimum running time of 50 minutes or more. Narrative Feature Films that have been or will be exhibited publicly at one or more non-festival screenings, broadcast or streamed on television or the Internet, or released via any home video or other public distribution platform (Blu-ray, DVD, streaming, VOD, etc.) are ineligible. Any films completed prior to January 2019 are not eligible for our competition categories. RIFFA 2020 must be the first public screening in Saskatchewan for films in this category. Selected features will be screened a minimum of 1 and maximum of 3 times during the RIFFA 2020 festival season.
INTERNATIONAL FEATURE
Any narrative fiction film of any genre, on any subject of international origin, produced and filmed outside of Canada. The submitted project must be either scripted or improvisational fiction. Submissions must have a running time of 50 minutes or more. Feature Films that have been or will be exhibited publicly at one or more non-festival screenings, broadcast or streamed on television or the Internet, or released via any home video or other public distribution platform (Blu-ray, DVD, streaming, VOD, etc.) are ineligible. Any films completed prior to January 2019 are not eligible for any of our competition categories. RIFFA 2020 must be the first public screening in Saskatchewan for films in this category. Selected features will be screened a minimum of 1 and maximum of 3 times during the festival season.
DOCUMENTARIES
CANADIAN DOCUMENTARY - LONG FORM
Any documentary film directed by a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, produced or co-produced in Canada. Submissions must have a minimum running time of 50 minutes or more. Entirely scripted or improvised fictionalization of actual events are not eligible in this category. If your documentary contains minimal dramatization of actual events, you may submit to this category. Documentaries that have been or will be exhibited publicly at one or more non-festival screenings, broadcast or streamed on television or the Internet, or released via any home video or other public distribution platform (Blu-ray, DVD, streaming, VOD, etc.) are ineligible. Documentaries completed prior to January 2019 are not eligible for any of our competition categories. RIFFA 2020 must be the first public screening in Saskatchewan for films in this category. Selected documentaries will screen a minimum of 1 and maximum of 3 times during the festival season.

SHORT FILMS
SASKATCHEWAN SHORT
Any fiction or animated film directed or produced by a Saskatchewan resident. Submissions must have a running time of 49 minutes or less including end credits. Short Films that have been or will be exhibited publicly at one or more non-festival screenings, broadcast or streamed on television or the Internet, or released via any home video or other public distribution platform (Blu-ray, DVD, streaming, VOD, etc.) are ineligible. Any films completed prior to January 2019 are not eligible for any of our competition categories. RIFFA 2020 must be the first public screening in Regina for films in this category. Selected films will be screened a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 3 times during the festival season.
CANADIAN SHORT FILM
Any fiction or animated film directed by a Canadian or permanent citizen, produced or co-produced in Canada. Submissions must have a running time of 49 minutes or less, including end credits. Short Films that have been or will be exhibited publicly at one or more non-festival screenings, broadcast or streamed on television or the Internet, or released via any home video or other public distribution platform (Blu-ray, DVD, streaming, VOD, etc.) are ineligible. INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM
Any fiction or animated film of international origin, produced and filmed outside of Canada. Submissions must have a running time of 49 minutes or less including end credits. Short Films that have been or will be exhibited publicly at one or more non-festival screenings, broadcast or streamed on television or the Internet, or released via any home video or other public distribution platform (Blu-ray, DVD, streaming, VOD, etc.) are ineligible. Films completed prior to January 2019 are not eligible for any of our competition categories. RIFFA 2020 must be the first public screening in Saskatchewan for films in this category. The selected film will be screened a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 3 times during the festival season.
ANIMATED SHORT FILM
Any animated fiction, documentary or experimental film with a running time of 49 minutes or less, including end credits. There are no restrictions on the country of origin. Short animated films that have been or will be exhibited publicly at one or more non-festival screenings, broadcast or streamed on television or the Internet, or released via any home video or other public distribution platform (Blu-ray, DVD, streaming, VOD, etc.) are ineligible. Any films completed prior to January 2019 are not eligible for any of our competition categories. RIFFA 2020 must be the first public screening in Saskatchewan for films in this category. Selected animated shorts will be screened a minimum of 1 time to a maximum of 3 times during the festival season.
INDIGENOUS SHORT FILM
Any narrative fiction, documentary or animated film. The film must be initiated and either directed, produced or written by Indigenous artists. Submissions must have a running time of 49 minutes or less, including end credits. There are no restrictions on the country of origin. Films that have been or will be exhibited publicly at two or more non-festival screenings, broadcast or streamed on television or the Internet, or released via any home video or another public distribution platform (Blu-ray, DVD, streaming, VOD, etc.) are ineligible. Films completed prior to January 2019 are not eligible for any of our competition categories. RIFFA 2020 must be the first public screening in Saskatchewan for films in this category. Selected shorts will be screened a minimum of 1 time to a maximum of 3 times during the festival season.
STUDENT SHORT FILM
Any narrative fiction, documentary or animation film produced and directed by students enrolled in a secondary or post secondary institution (as of January 2019). Submissions must have a running time of 49 minutes or less, including end credits. Short Films that have been or will be exhibited publicly at one or more non-festival screenings, broadcast or streamed on television or the Internet, or released via any home video or other public distribution platform (Blu-ray, DVD, streaming, VOD, etc.) are ineligible. Films completed prior to January 2019 are not eligible for any of our competition categories. RIFFA 2020 must be the first public screening in Saskatchewan for films in this category. For Saskatchewan students: RIFFA 2020 must be the first public screening in Regina for films in this category. Selected shorts will be screened a minimum of 1 time to a maximum of 3 times during the festival season.
