About the festival

The Reading Fringe Film Festival is dedicated to supporting new and upcoming filmmakers. The festival aims to provide a productive platform for short films and encourage creativity.

This is Reading Fringe’s 8th year hosting a film festival which includes not only a 48 Hour Challenge (linked directly to the festival) but a variety of selected films ranging from 10 seconds to 10 minutes.

The Festival is hosted by Workbench Productions - www.workbenchproductions.co.uk

10 short films will be selected to be screened at the festival.

All selected films will be eligible for the following awards:
Best Short Film
Best Director
Best Actor
Best Actress
Best Short Film (Director & Crew Under 18)

There will be an event to announce the winners on July 22nd 2020

Due to Covid 19 , this event will now be virtual and with the finalists being showcased during the week of the Reading Fringe Festival.

Terms and rules

Genre: All genres are welcome to be submitted.

Time: We screen films from 10 seconds to up to 10 minutes (including all credits)

Completion Date: Films must have been completed after January 1, 2019

Language: All non-English language films must have English subtitles

Deadline: 1st July, 2020

Online Screener: We accept only online submissions.
Please provide a password if the film is password protected.

For official selections we will kindly request a digital copy which can be shared via email, dropbox, Google Drive or other formats (DVD is not needed or required)

There are no submission fee refunds.

Trailers are not eligible for selection purposes.

NOTIFICATION OF ENTRY STATUS:

Due to the high number of entries applicants will be notified by July 13, 2020 of their final entry status via email to the submission contact.

Due to time constraints the Selection Committee will not be able to respond individually to filmmakers if your film is not accepted.

Decisions made by the Reading Fringe Film Festival Team are final.

Entries must have the copyright to sound recordings or written permission to use within the short. Entrants will be asked to re-submit a version that can be publicly distributed.

The Reading Fringe Film Festival Team accepts no responsibility for undelivered / unreadable entries.

It is a condition of entry that the winner agrees to their name and biography being made publicly available if they win.

Entries previously submitted for competition at past Reading Fringe Film Competitions will not be accepted

Entrants retain ownership of their Entries submitted into the Competition (subject always to third party rights in the Entry).

By submitting an Entry, entrants grant the Reading Fringe Film Festival non-exclusive license for the duration of copyright protection to reproduce or distribute a reproduction of their Entry in all media in order to promote, or act as a historical record of, the Competition; for commercial and/or promotional purposes relating to The Reading Fringe Film Festival (or a future The Reading Fringe Film Festival event) ; and/or for future film festival events or future general promotional purposes.

To support, promote and encourage local film making within the Reading area, the Reading Fringe Film Fesitval offers a special free entry fee for those film makers living within 15 Miles of the Reading Town Centre. Please provide the address of the primary film maker which will be confirmed to benefit from free entry. email: info@workbenchproductions.co.uk We will then send you a promotional code to allow for free entry.
