About the festival

Pride Arts quarterly film fest is back!

PLEASE NOTE WE HAVE BEEN BUMPED FROM OUR SEPT 9 SLOT AT MUSIC BOX FILMS due to contractual arrangements they needed to make for full run features. We will update this site as soon as we hear from them about an available date.

If you have submitted before - under the Pride Films and Plays banner - please feel free to submit again as there is a whole new film team. Also, students should apply in the GenerationNext film fest.

The Pride Film Festival is a quarterly screening series dedicated to LGBT filmmakers, presenting audiences with internationally produced LGBT independent cinema at Pride Arts, 4139 N. Broadway in Chicago. This year-round film festival celebrates the international LGBT independent film scene while also bringing together and strengthening the Chicago LGBT film making community with networking opportunities.

Pride seeks quality submissions for its Pride Film Festival which showcases feature length and short films. Submissions must include content related to the LGBT experience. Entries may be submitted in one of the following categories: Drama, Comedy, Romance, Documentary, Animated, Sci Fi, Music Video, Student or Short film.

PAC is the home of Pride Films & Plays (PFP.) From 2013-17, PFP produced the Queer Bits Film Festival twice a year. This typically was a sold-out 90-minute program of short narrative, animated, foreign language, student, and documentary films. In April 2016, Queer Bits AltReels was presented which included slightly longer films which were more experimental in form and storytelling. Given these successes, in the Summer of 2017 PFP expanded the Queer Bits festivals under the new name Pride Film Festival, featuring monthly screenings of not only shorts but also feature length films.

The mission of PFP is to change lives through the generation of diverse new work (or work that is new to Chicago) with LGBTQ+ characters or themes that is essential viewing for all audiences. We accomplish this mission through fully-staged productions, writing contests and staged readings, film screenings, and special events. We foster long term relationships with artists to create programming that is as diverse, unique, and complex as the community we represent. In 2015, Huffington Post called PFP “A powerful and empowering entity.”

This in information about the regular Pride Film Fest which will run again in monthly screenings.

Entries are eligible to receive their official Chicago-premieres at PFP’s Pride Arts Center, 4139 N. Broadway, Chicago, IL. Based on the quality of submissions, one film and/or a series of shorts will be chosen for their premieres each month from February until May 2018. Q & A's will follow each screening.

The Jury Prize will be selected by the screening committee which is comprised of professional filmmakers and members of the artistic ensemble of Pride Films and Plays.

The Audience Award will be selected by members of the audience by an anonymous poll taken after the screening of the films.
