About the festival

Welcome to the 20/21 edition of The Prague International Indie Film Festival, aka PIIF.

The perfect festival for your networking and finding partners for your next audiovisual production in the most charming city in central Europe. Have your project valued alongside big names who have already participated in renowned international film festivals!

So you have a movie. Or even more than one. It's a short or music video, of up to 40 minutes. Probably it's not and won't be your only one. Sure you don't want it to be your last work. But it's a film that you wish will impact those who watch it. You believe that it deserves to be seen and shown to the world. You'll be part of the cinema industry, present your art and your way of making a film.
The city of Prague and most specifically the Prague International Indie Film Festival is a great place to step into the world of cinema.

Prague has a generous atmosphere for filmmaking. It may be here that your work gains deserved visibility. And it will also be here that you may meet the partners for your next production. Many will also know you and interesting possibilities will appear. This is how it has been happening at PIIF. You already know that a successful filmmaker career takes place when your network is in constant growth. PIIF is this environment: real and virtual, where we get to know you and you get known in the film industry.
Every great filmmaker made the first film. Almost always, it was a short film.
And just like the filmmakers, actors, screenwriters, photographers, costume designers, makeup artists, producers, and every player in the film industry went through the sacred moment of making a short film. For many, it was the first step in building a career.

PIIF is structured to give maximum visibility, opportunity, and recognition to cinema professionals through nomination, prominence, presentation, awards in several categories.

This year we will expand our structure for receiving and appreciating films. More judgment systems and new categories will be appreciated.

Filmmaker, it will be a pleasure and a responsibility to receive your film. We know that almost everyone here wants to live with movies, from movies, and for movies. This is our contribution. Prague is our home. Welcome.

Every quarter year edition our judges will select the winners and honorable mentions from the following categories. In order to apply to any additional categories, the film must be submitted into a major category (best short, best foreign short, best documentary short, best animation short, best experimental short, best student short).
