Terms and rules

While recreation and entertainment play a role in a healthy society, The Park City International Film Festival (“PCIFF”) seeks to unite artists and audiences in pursuit of a vision that doesn’t just promote art for art’s sake, but promotes art for the sake of elevating humanity.

In contrast to some other festivals, the Park City International Film Festival does not limit participation to independent filmmakers and focuses not on the filmmakers’ status but on their work product in order to stimulate a broader genre of cinema capable of elevating the human spirit. In most instances, this kind of purpose-driven cinema will result in films that can be watched by family audiences. As a result, unless a film is specifically designated as only appropriate for older children, all festival screenings may be presumed to be suitable for family members of all ages.

Submissions are reviewed and accepted or rejected by the PCIFF programming staff. Films accepted by the PCIFF programming staff will best align with the mission of the Park City International Film Festival as described above.

Notwithstanding the family-friendly ideals, the Park City International Film Festival does not require submissions to qualify for a G rating by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). Healthy families and an ethical society are forged in the midst of real-world challenges involving death, dishonesty and betrayal, violence and crime, as well as countless accidents and limitations to physical or emotional health. However, even the darkest of themes can be handled in a manner that can meet the mission of the festival and may be crafted in a way that can be appropriate for family audiences. While a rating from the MPAA is not required for submission, it is unlikely that films will be eligible to receive awards if award judges determine a film would only be suitable for viewers over 17.

Films that push beyond the edge of these standards are likely to be rejected.

• Nudity or content designed to stimulate sexual arousal.

• Offensive or explicit language (specifically the F-bomb and other flagrant and abusive words historically prohibited for public broadcast).

• Taking of the name of God in vain and/or irreverence to deity.

• Gratuitous violence or gore involving humans or animals.

• Flippant disregard to words or conduct appearing to glorify or celebrate substance abuse, binge and/or underage drinking, or reckless behavior demonstrating a lack of normal respect for life.

Physical Media
If you are mailing us physical media such as a hard drive, or Blu-ray Disc and would like to have them returned after the festival, please provide the necessary packaging and pre-paid postage so we can slip it into the mail immediately following the conclusion of the festival. The festival will NOT return physical media at the festivals cost.
