EVENT HISTORY:
Early Years
In 1994, the OpenEyes Filmfest in Marburg projected moving pictures onto the screen for the first time. Originating from the trauma-own cinema group, the aim was to draw the attention of a film-interested public to the (independent) short film, which usually does not find its way into commercial cinemas.

In its more than 20-year anniversary, the Film Festival has become a permanent cultural event in Marburg, attracting well over 1,000 visitors to the Trauma garden each year. The OpenEyes Filmfest - the only regular film festival between Kassel and Frankfurt - still focuses on short films.

The Scenery
For 13 years, the OpenEyes Filmfest took place at the castle ruins Amöneburg before moving to the Botanical Garden for three years. Today, the garden romantic garden of the café trauma, including the "garage cinema" as well as the own cinema hall and the baari bar, act as a charming backdrop for the open-air festival. The classic industrial architecture of the g-werk offers festival visitors a special atmosphere.

Organization
The OpenEyes team continues to stick to the structure of volunteering. As part of the Café Trauma e.V., which is self-governing and grassroots-democratically supported by many dedicated, volunteer helpers, a comprehensive, creative and always new cultural programme can be offered.

These structures will benefit the OpenEyes Filmfest and its individual team members, as each of the Festival's work areas can be independently designed. Especially the 20 to 25 students of the project seminar can benefit from this in order to prepare themselves for their later cultural work. The support of the full-time office team and the communication in the team also gives all participants the necessary security in the handling of all tasks.

The movies
On four days, international short films of all genres, from feature and documentary films to animation and experimental films will be shown. The OpenEyes offers everyone - whether film school graduate, amateur or professional - a platform for their films.

In addition, the garage cinema offers a low-threshold opportunity to submit films away from the competition just before the festival starts or spontaneously in order to show them to an interested audience.

The only requirement is the length: everything is allowed from 30 seconds to 30 minutes. The films shown are intended to realize diversity at various levels. Original techniques, different aesthetics and innovative ideas should be given a space to present cultural diversity, interesting and critical questions as well as current problems in a stimulating program.

The Filmmakers
Through the personal invitation of the filmmakers, the OpenEyes team promotes contact with the directors and thus creates a forum to exchange and get to know each other. The filmmakers comment on their films and are also accessible and approachable: during the festival or at the filmmaker's breakfast in the baari bar.

ENSTEHUNGSGESCHICHTE:

Audience-prize with one winner and two runner-ups in each category.
