The ‘Ōiwi Film Festival at the Honolulu Museum of Art showcases new work directed by indigenous Hawaiian filmmakers, providing a venue for artists to share their stories and to show Hawai’i through their own eyes and in their own voices. The festival also aims to inspire new Hawaiian filmmakers and to engage the broader community in a dialogue about Hawaiian culture and storytelling. Selected films will be shown at the Honolulu Museum of Art Doris Duke Theatre November 7-12, 2014. The 'Oiwi Film Festival is non-competitive.

Terms and rules

Submission deadline: September 1, 2014

Films should be directed or co-directed by an indigenous Hawaiian filmmaker.

Subject matter should relate to Hawai’i, Hawaiian arts, culture, lifestyle, history and politics, but all stories are welcome!

All formats accepted—documentaries, feature films and shorts.

All running times accepted—no limitations.

Filmmakers selected for the festival will be notified by Oct. 4, 2015

Note: If a director has concerns about the online submissions process, arrangements can be made to submit a hard copy. Submissions will also be accepted at aalgar@honolulumuseum.org
