About the festival

We hope to bring you exciting news soon about the 2020 festival!

While Covid19 has shaken many aspects of our lives at this moment in time, we feel that a Film Festival must be more than watching streamed on-line content and we are exploring creative ways to realize the festival as a physical experience in 2020..
WATCH THIS SPACE!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OFFline Film Festival is an exciting event for film lovers and makers alike. Irish and international films are screened in an array of quirky venues around the town to enthusiastic audiences.

Every year we accept short films from all over the world to be entered into our short film competition. Prizes include Best Irish Short which wins a guaranteed distribution deal to over 80 official film clubs across Ireland; Best International Short and the Audience Award.

The festival also includes workshops on aspects of film-making given by industry professionals. One of the most fun & exciting aspect of OFFline is the short filmmaking challenge where teams of filmmakers shoot and edit a short film in Birr in a matter of days, often enlisting the help of locals in front of and behind the cameras. These films are submitted to a panel of judges and screened to the public on the final day with the winning short bagging a screening slot at Oscar qualifying Galway Film Fleadh.

FROM THE HEART is a celebration of films and film making from both emerging and established talent in the heart of Ireland. Eligible films should ideally have either a physical location or production personnel connected to the Midlands counties of Offaly, Laois, Westmeath and Longford, but county borders are a guideline and if your film or crew reflect the spirit of the Midlands, we want to share your creative passion. There will be a dedicated screening night during our 2020 Festival to celebrate and highlight film making in the region! 70% off submission fee with the code - ireheart Max run time- 30mins
