We program non-traditional documentaries, works that focus on the underrepresented, the personal, and the culturally specific. We believe these approaches offer profound experiences of art made from life.
The first annual Mimesis Documentary Festival brings filmmakers together for an immersive week of film screenings, masterclasses, workshops, and discussions. The 2020 edition will be reimagined as an artist-focused online presentation from August 12-18 as a response to the uncertainty surrounding the ongoing world health crisis.
Mimesis was created as a platform for nonfiction artists, scholars, and creators to learn, share, and engage with one another. Our online festival is a multimodal opportunity for both exhibition and participation, with a chance for filmmakers to screen their films while directly networking with peers, instructors, students, and established professionals. Short and feature length programs will be available for streaming throughout the week alongside live events geared towards both filmmakers and the general public. Many of these events will be participatory and accessible with limited enrollment to allow the best environment for a fulfilling interactive experience.
Mimesis is an initiative of the University of Colorado Boulder’s Center for Documentary and Ethnographic Media to create and foster a local, regional, and international network of documentary artists and scholars. We are filmmaker-focused, community oriented, and committed to providing a platform for the infinite potential of nonfiction media.
