About the festival

STORIES are the most transformational tool known to man.

One can sit in therapy for 10 years with no results, and then go see a compelling, exciting, inspirational story on film, and all of a sudden, one can look at the world in a new light. Or someone has has recently experienced death or tragedy can watch your wild and wacky digital comedy which causes them to laugh for the first time in a long time, and hence, start their recovery.

Fantastic!

Stories make people think, feel, and most importantly, stories help people make new choices about life. How many people do you think made a change in their lives after seeing Rocky? Or Chariots of Fire? Or Shindler’s List? Or even E.T.?

Stories are not just entertainment. They teach, make people laugh and cry, and they INSPIRE people to reach out and connect again, and often, they inspire people to tell their own stories too.

So Manhattan Rep’s STORIES Film Festival is about the narrative, the amazing adventure, the love lost and found again, the crazy challenge, the social commentary, the wacky situation, the impossible dream, and so much more as we celebrate digital storytelling at it’s finest!

From Wednesday night May 15 through Sunday night May 19, 2019 at Manhattan Repertory Theatre, 17-19 West 45th St, New York City, a block from TIMES SQUARE, we will be screening your digital STORIES, your feature films, your shorts, your web series, your documentaries, music video and more in our 70 seat screening theatre in Midtown Manhattan.

We will be presenting themed film events - Full Length Narrative night, Documentary Brunch, Marathon Saturday Shorts, Music Video Madness and Web Series Binge. We will have popcorn, beverages, pillows and blankets (if you don’t feel like sitting) and more fun.

On Saturday May 18 and on Sunday May 19, we will host a number of panel discussions in the midst of screenings:

How Stories can transform and effect change in a world gone mad!

How Stories Heal.

The Power of Comedy

Using Music and Film to Effect Change

And more!
