About the festival

In its fourth year, the Maine Student Film Festival is a celebration of the best student film and video in the world. Each year, thousands of student filmmakers from dozens of countries and hundreds of schools compete in a cut-throat selection process that highlights the best that student filmmakers have to offer.

The culmination of the process is the Annual Event, a three-day event held at a creative venue in Maine (or in the case of COVID-19, live-streamed from such). The show highlights the selected filmmakers, complemented by panels, workshops, roundtables, and interviews from MSFF alumni and film professionals.

Our categories are being finalized for our 2021 show. We select ten films in each category to be screened - five runners up, and five nominees.

The five nominees are eligible to compete for the MSFF award in their distinctive category.

The selections are decided by popular voting, and the final MSFF Award Winners are chosen by a panel of film professionals from around the state of Maine.
