About the festival

The Lisbon Film Awards is a brand new monthly film festival with an annual event held in the heart of Lisbon.

Our mission is to showcase indie filmmakers all over the world. The competition is open to every production regardless of budget and experience and you do not need to wait to know if your entry is a winner- we publish the results every month.

The festival has the following structure:

1. The selection of films: we see all the submitted films and select the best films of the month. These films receive the status 'Official Selection' of the monthly edition.

2. The jury selects the winners of the month and we announce it on both our website and social media pages.

3. Monthly winners are invited to attend the annual ceremony. Apart from watching your film on a big screen, we host a Q&A session with the selected filmmakers, followed by interviews and networking sessions.

As filmmakers ourselves, we know the challenges of putting your work out there and make a career out of it. We want to help you get there.

Judges score the quality and creativity of entries on a performance scale, and winning entries are recognized and awarded monthly with a certificate, official selection or winner laurel.

All winners of each category are promoted through our social media and website with a dedicated page with synopsis, film stills and trailer. For this purpose, we recommend that projects must be fully entered on FilmFreeway, including film stills, production pictures, downloadable poster, etc.

Not every monthly winner of all categories gets to the annual event. Narrative short films are the priority of the LFA, and the 10 winners of those categories have a secure screening at the end of the year. Therefore, the jury will carefully select the best music videos and student films to be invited for the event.

All the selected filmmakers at the festival are competing for the Annual LFA trophy which will be awarded at the end of the screenings (this trophy can be ordered if you do not attend the festival).
