About the festival

Launched in 1991, the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival’s biennial 6-day conference is an unmatched international industry event drawing 650+ international leaders in science, conservation, broadcasting and media. The 2013 Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival is slated for Sept 23-27.

The Jackson Hole Conservation Summit is an initiative of the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival. This inaugural year we have chosen to put our focus on the world’s great apes. Chimpanzees, gorillas and bonobos in Africa and orangutans in Southeast Asia are under extreme pressure from deforestation, hunting, habitat loss, civil conflict, disease and human encroachment. They are among the world’s most “endangered” primates, and we do not have the luxury of time as we confront the critical issues that threaten their survival.

In alternating years, JHWFF hosts a Symposium targeting 300+ technology and non-broadcast media professionals. The next conference is slated for the fall of 2014.

In 2012, we launched the Science Media Awards, a prestigious competition to showcase the extraordinary films that illustrate the wonders of science and its far-reaching impact on our daily lives.

Outside its industry & professional focus, JHWFF is equally committed to creating multidisciplinary education and community enrichment opportunities. The organization’s robust, year-round community initiatives integrate photography and digital media with art, literature and nature. Our latest community initiatives include http://www.TEDxJacksonHole/ and http://www.OneDayinJacksonHole.org/
