About the festival

Highlighting “Our Differences, Diversity and Sensitivity”, International 2 Sides Short Film Festival’s 2020 theme is designated as “In My Pocket”. This year, the festival aims to reflect the diversity of cultural experiences and the accumulative effect of our personal journeys.

2SSFF’s program includes selections consisting of contemporary independent short films from all over the world, new generation experimental films, queer films, female-directed films and debut films; thematic film talks, panels with directors and events focusing on the communication between audiences.

The festival’s main objective is to connect “2 Sides” by collaborating with a different independent film initiative every year, and to enrich the cultural landscape of Izmir. This year’s special guest is bi’bak from Berlin. bi’bak’s film program bi’bakino, which was established in 2015, focuses on migration and mobility discourses and transnational narratives. It aims to diversify the expressions of these issues in film discipline. As from September 2020, bi’bakino will show the potential of a pluralist and participatory cinema which adopts a post-migratory and postcolonial approach by initiating a “cinema experiment” in its temporary venue in Berlin-Alexanderplatz.

Last year, to fulfil its aim of bringing diverse venue experiences to Izmir and reminding the culture of collective viewing, our festival took place in found/transformed boutique venues. This year’s edition is going digital due to pandemic.

*International 2SSFF is being realized with the support of Spaces of Culture and is executed by DFA (Digital Film Atelier).

Everyone is a winner! All selected films deserve a prize and we believe that it’s valuable to give the storytellers an opportunity to share their stories. Thank you for your interest and we look forward to seeing your work!
