About the festival

Our unique film festival is calling for short-form documentary film submissions!

InvestmentNews and the United Nations are collaborating again on an event to inspire audiences of the power of responsible business by illustrating stories of people and places across the globe whose lives have been made better by unique entrepreneurs, investments, companies and individuals that are changing the world one step at a time.

Responsible Business, or Sustainable Investing, or SRI, or ESG, or Impact, are many names under a broad umbrella: the idea that to create systemic positive change in our world, we must put the broad scope of businesses and the markets to good use, and that governments and non-profits are not enough on their own. What happens when a business decides it’s goal is not just profit, but purpose?

The festival’s goal is to make the story of responsible business mainstream.

We will showcase filmmakers and films from around the globe.

The festival will be held virtually on Dec 2nd and will include panels and Q&As with the audience - more information to follow about this.

Each short film selected will need to illustrate a story of how a business or individual has undertaken a mission to make a difference in their world.

We know that you as documentary filmmakers are driven by this same mission, but that the world of responsible business, the United Nations, and other aspects like the Sustainable Development Goals may be unknown to you. To help you, the filmmaker, we have on our website www.investmentnews.com/impactfest a more in depth explanation, detailed information, our two winning films from 2019, and an overview video.

More than anything, this festival is meant to showcase these stories, and inspire our audience. As the festival director, my goal is to showcase not only the best films, but the most applicable films. As such, I am happy to start working with inspired filmmakers now, to help provide information, help shape your idea, or even provide the names of businesses around the world with an amazing story waiting to be told. This will be non-biased assistance, and I will ensure that no help I give in any way interferes with the eventual acceptance or not of that film into this festival.

From Plastic Bank’s work in Haiti to TRU Colors in Wilmington, North Carolina, amazing stories need to be celebrated to help inspire the next generation of impact investing.

Send us your films. Help us celebrate so we can show the changes happening across the globe.

We will have three awards and a prize for each, including an eco-friendly bamboo trophy.

Judged by a panel of experts and filmmakers:

Best Film - $1,000
Best story of Impact - $500

Judged live by the audience:

Audience Choice - $500
