Heritales – International Heritage Film Festival 2020–
"Education, diversity and community"
The Heritales project aims to disseminate material and immaterial heritage using narratives of an artistic and playful nature. It is based on photography, games, theater, performances or interactive media, and mainly on the seventh art through documentaries, animated films and short films. It considers that the promotion of the different cultures of the world should be shared forever through these supports. On the one hand, it aims to encourage sustainability linked to communities and promote a reinterpretation of what can be valued as cultural heritage, emphasizing the importance of education to transmit it. On the other hand, it wants to encourage new ways of transferring knowledge, encouraging intercultural dialogue and giving way to international scientific collaboration through partnerships.
In this fourth edition, the Heritales festival will bring together films, documentaries and other artistic works. It explores cultural diversity and education as ways to promote the sustainability of cultures and places, communities and ecosystems. Over the course of three months, more than 20 films will be available for viewing and voting on-line, and also promoting live sessions in various international spaces. The culmination of the festival is celebrated with an award ceremony in Lisbon in the last week of September. As part of the event, a three-day residency will be organized for the directors of the selected works. During this period, workshops and debates will take place as well as films projections for the general public.
In this fourth edition, Heritales has partner with the UNESCO Chair in Education, Citizenship and Cultural Diversity at the Lusófona University of Lisbon which will also award the prices, and supported by the General-Directorate for Cultural Heritage Portugal (DGPC), which will offer the site for the award ceremony.
