About the festival

Green Montenegro International Film Fest is becoming a well-established centre of ecological identity of Montenegro and the forerunner of the concrete activities and sustainable ideas concerning the protection of the natural resources of our country, region and the rest of the world. The aim of the festival is to develop and raise the level of awareness and responsibility about the urgent need to protect and conserve the environment, nature in general, which in recent decades, and now more than ever, has disturbed the daily life of not only people but also flora and fauna in every corner of our only home - Earth. Festival also contributes to the development of social thought and shapes further directions for the development of culture, education, ecology, tourism and civil activism, all in order to protect the environment.

Next, VI edition of the festival will take place in the first half of August 2020 in one of the most beautiful natural environments in Europe - Durmitor National Park - which is included in the UNESCO list of the World Natural Heritage in 1980. The members of the Council also unanimously agreed that the Regional Cooperation Council, as an organisation that pays special attention to sustainable development and ecology, that could play a significant role in understanding and supporting GMIFF.

In previous five years, even so festival had its main venue, GMIFF also travelled throughout the Montenegro and had screening of the award-winning films at private and state universities in Podgorica, at cultural centres in Nikšić, Danilovgrad, Bijelo Polje and Bar, at the Splendid Hotel in Budva as well, and in many Montenegrin primary and secondary schools in cooperation with the Ministry of Education – with aim to attract as many as possible citizens to see the world most important movies about the environment, sustainable development and ecology. This year, one segment of the festival (promo-touristic video) will be held in Porto Montenegro - exclusive marina and yachting paradise in the Mediterranean, offering waterfront residences, luxury shops and high-end events.

Organisers of the festival are Centre for Multimedia Production (www.cezam.me) in a close cooperation with the Municipality of Žabljak, with a support of the Ministry of Tourism and Sustainable Development and Tourism, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Education, National Parks of Montenegro and Environment Protection Agency.

The significance of this project is visible through the fact that the GMIFF has put Montenegro on the map of the world’s ecology- oriented events by becoming the member of the “Green Film Network”, thus making the festival internationally recognised, within the 39 most renowned eco festival in the world.

In addition to the accolades for the first, second and third place in the above categories, a Grand Prix is also awarded for the best achievement in the festival.
