About the festival

Ghana Students Film Festival (GSFF) is an innovation under the umbrella of the CSR HUB GHANA. The festival targets young film making students across the various training institutions in Ghana.

The annual GSFF seeks to create a platform that will give them exposure, access to the big screen, support and encourage excellence in film making among the youth and to create a network of audiences all over Ghana, Africa and the world at large.

The 3-day Festival which will be hosted by different schools in different regions annually, will include an Art Exhibition, Music & Dance Performances and a Funfair. It will also feature interactive sessions with local and international filmmakers regarding techniques, artistry and issues raised by the films that will be submitted and screened at the festival.

The venue for the maiden edition of the festival will be the Accra City Hall (A.M.A. Office) located in the heart of the city of Accra.

Meet hundreds of students and participants from across Africa and Europe. Industry players, more than 15 schools and Institutions in Ghana.

Awards given by GSFF is a way to extend a hand to young film creators. A miniature director's chair symbolizes the talent of winners and serves as encouragement. Aside cash prizes, awarding films will be sponsored by GSFF to enter international film festivals and competitions worldwide.

The festival jury, on the last day of the festival will award prizes in these categories:
1. Special Jury Award

3. ‘Alexander Bannerman’ - Best Animation Film
4. ‘Chris Hesse’ - Best Short Documentary
5. ‘Atu Yanney’ - Best Script Writer

7. Best Editing
8. ‘Francis Kwakye’ - Best Sound
9. Best Male Director
10. Best Female Director
11. Best Narrative
12. Best International Short Film
13. Best Web series
14. Best Sci-Fi Film

Terms and rules

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Only entries received through channel of submission will be accepted for the awards. The festival is reserved for independent produced youth films without assistance of professional production companies. We accept submissions of films produced between 1st January, 2018 to 30th June, 2020. The festival accepts short films as defined internationally in the following categories:
• Fiction,
• Documentary,
• Animation,
• Experimental Films.

Submissions to the competition section of the Festival must conform to the following criteria:
Films must be made independent of any support of professional production organizations.
Films must be an international standard short film.
Films can be in any language but must have English language subtitles.
Films not conforming to these rules can be submitted and become a part of festival affiliate events network such as screening etc.

SELECTION:
Producer i.e. the copyright holder decides on the desired category to be included for the selection. Should the film not fit the requirements for a particular category the organizers reserve the right to include the film in a different category.
Applications must be made through the communicated channel for submission only. By registering, the producer agrees with the festivals terms and conditions for their films. Submission must include the following:
Text document with a synopsis (minimum half page)
Text document with full cast and crew
Text document with technical information (length, format etc.)
The film cover design.
A photo of the director/author
Text document with a short biography of the director/author
Selection results will be published before event date.

RIGHTS AND DUTIES RESULTING FROM SELECTION:
By submitting a film, you give the festival the right without compensation, to present the work to the public in whatever form, media, online or at a public screening, with the purpose of promoting the festival. All copyrights remain property of the author.

SUBMITTING THE FILM FOR SELECTION
To submit a film, you must fill out the official festival application form. Films must conform to the following technical specifications:
Video: H.264 video encoding at up to 15 Mbps bitrate (MS Windows compatible codec).
Audio: at least 44.1kHz sample rate and at least 128kbps bitrate.

Failing to conform to the specification can result in eliminating the film from the selection without further explanation. Film has to be uploaded to any online service or storage and providing organizers the link, where film can be downloaded.

Application deadline is August 2020. No applications will be possible after the deadline. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Deadline date is considered as the date of data saving in the database.
