About the festival

The Fungi Film Fest (FFF) is the world’s first short film festival dedicated to the beauty, weirdness, and human influences of mushrooms, lichens, and micro fungi.

Filmmakers of all backgrounds and genre types are welcome to submit to the festival, with the only requirement being that their film feature fungi in some way.

All films in the final FFF program will have a chance to win one or more of the following awards, as selected by the Festival’s jurors and the premiere night’s audience.

BEST OF THE FEST
The Best of the Fest award recognizes the film that combine an original concept, a creative take on mycology or fungi-related culture, and quality cinematography.

The winning filmmaker(s) will be awarded with a FFF Best of the Fest trophy.

AUDIENCE CHOICE
The winning film of this award will be chosen by the audience using an online polling system on the Festival’s premiere night.

The winning filmmaker(s) will be awarded with an FFF Audience Choice trophy.

MOST ORIGINAL
This award recognizes the film that presents fungi in the most original, creative, or thought-provoking manner.

The winning filmmaker(s) will be awarded with a FFF Most Original Film trophy.

FUNNIEST FUNGI FILM
The FFF’s FFF award honors the film with the most comedic presentation of fungi or fungi-related topics.

The winning filmmaker(s) will be awarded with a FFF FFF trophy.

MOST EDUTAINING
This award honors a film that is highly entertaining, richly informative, and accessible to a wide variety of audiences.

The winning filmmaker(s) will be awarded with a FFF Most Edutaining trophy.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Duration: 10 minutes maximum. Shorter is better, with 3–5 minutes being ideal.

Video format: NTSC

Video resolution: 1920 × 1080 (1080 p). 4k can be delivered, though a 1920×1080 version must also be provided

Audio resolution: 2.0 Channel Stereo Mix, 48k, 16 bit

Frame rate: 24 fps preferred, but 23.98 or 29.97 will also be accepted

Codec: Apple Pro Res 422 (standard)

Encoding: H.264 with 15-30 mbps variable bit rate. 4k versions will need a 100-150mbps bit rate.

Container: .MOV

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR FILM

Send a YouTube, Vimeo, or Dropbox link to submissions@fungifilmfest.com before 11:59 PM PST on August 31. Our jury of film and fungi lovers will select the films to be included in the final Festival program and selected filmmakers will be contacted by September 15.

If you are unable to meet the above requirements, just let us know. We can likely modify your file to match these specs, but if you can do it from the start, that will make your film look its best!
