About the festival

The Fort Worth Indie Film Showcase goals are to promote collaboration among filmmakers; and to call attention to the quality work produced within the independent film movement. For our part, we provide a platform for filmmakers to showcase and share their work. Attendees have the opportunity to participate in multiple panels scheduled throughout the festival. Aside from the formal screening and panel schedule, there are constant networking opportunities. We love seeing directors, actors, writers, and tech people make new connections. We also look for people whose skills we think might be complementary, and make the introductions.
In short, we seek to be a festival where filmmakers receive encouragement. We're working to be a festival where more experienced artists can give guidance and ideas to newer artists. At FWIFS, we believe that we are stronger when we work together.

A panel of independent Judges will determine the category winners.
The basic categories are as follows:
Best "Domestic" Feature - For the purposes of this festival, a "domestic" film is produced in Texas.
Best "Domestic" Short - Again, the film must be produced in Texas to be considered in the "domestic" category.
Best "Foreign" Feature - This would be a film produced in any one of the 49 states that is not Texas, or any US Territory.
Best "Foreign" Short - Same rule as above. Produced in the US, anywhere outside of Texas.
Best International Feature - Any film produced outside of the US or any of it's territories.
Best International Short - Same as above.
Best Feature Screenplay
Best Short Screenplay

Depending on the mix of films received, we will also award "best of" in the following categories:
Drama
Comedy
Horror/Thriller
Science Fiction
Music Video/Musical Film
Web Series

Audience Choice

We reserve the right to adjust award categories as the season develops.

Terms and rules

SUBMISSION:
In order to be fully and properly considered, films must be available to view through FilmFreeway’s online screening interface.

We do not provide fee waivers.

Entrant confirms and warrants required legal authority to submit the entry into the Festival and to use all music, images, and content contained and used within said entry.
(This means that you either own or have permission to use everything in the film.)

All entries must be either in English or subtitled in English. It is the submitter’s responsibility to ensure the proper subtitled version is submitted.

The Fort Worth Indie Film Showcase is not responsible for incorrect wording in publications, promotions, or awards if the entry form is incorrect or illegible.

We will consider works in progress. However, the final screening copies must be received no later than one month before the festival.

If the running time of the final exhibition copy is significantly different than the reviewed screener, (such that it will not fit in the originally assigned time slot), the Fort Worth Indie Film Showcase reserves the right to change the screening time and date of the film. If we are unable to schedule an alternate time slot for an altered film, the Fort Worth Indie Film Showcase reserves the right to not screen the film. In the event this occurs, the film is still eligible for competition.

If the film is re-edited after screening and acceptance. The Fort Worth Indie Film Showcase reserves the right to review the new edit prior to screening and further reserves the right to refuse screening of the updated cut. If a film is accepted based on an early cut in the submission process and later refused a screening based on an updated cut of the film, the film will retain its acceptance status and will remain in competition.

Acceptance to the festival and placement on the schedule is not an absolute guarantee of screening during the festival. Occurrences beyond the festival’s control such as facility power outages, emergency evacuations, natural disasters, etc. may create such a delay that we are unable to show all films. In cases such as this, we will make every effort to show the film, however, based on the length of delay it may not be possible.

PUBLIC SCREENERS:
Officially selected films must be available for download as soon as possible after notification, but no later than two weeks before the start date of the festival. We prefer film are submitted as MP4 files, as those have been the most dependable playing format. If you submit your film in a format other than MP4 and we discover upon testing the file that it will not play properly on our equipment. We will contact you for a differently formatted file or a physical disc. If we do not receive a response, we will render the file ourselves to create an MP4 version. If we are unable to properly render the film to a workable format with the correct aspect ratio, we may opt not to screen the film. In the event this occurs, the film will retain its “Official Selection” status and will remain eligible for competition.
You may also submit your film on DVD(NTSC), or Blu-Ray. If you choose to provide physical discs instead of files, please send two copies to:

FWIFS
Attn: Submissions
c/o Brooks Chapel Productions
P.O. box 331142
Fort Worth TX,76163

If you provide a copy of your film via download and as a physical disc. The downloaded file will be the primary copy and the disc will be the backup unless you request otherwise.

Fort Worth Indie Film Showcase (FWIFS) prefers not to stream films during the festival. We will do so only in rare and urgent circumstances. It is the submitter’s responsibility to provide a viable screening copy. FWIFS will not “rip” your screener from YouTube, Vimeo, or any other video hosting platform. Failure to provide a viable screening copy will result in removal from the screening schedule.

DVDs and BluRays will not be returned via mail. (If you attend the festival and wish to have your disc returned, just ask after the screening. We will be happy to oblige)

NOTIFICATION:
Please monitor FilmFreeway for the status of your submission.
Email will be the primary means of communications. If you have not received notifications shortly after the final submission deadline passes, check your spam or junk mail folder. If the messages did not route to one of those folders then contact the festival director with an alternate email address.
If you prefer some other means of electronic communications, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate your reasonable request.
