About the festival

The FOOD FILM FEST is an international competition dedicated to food and film, organized by Associazione Culturale Art Maiora and the Chamber of Commerce of Bergamo. It is under the artistic direction of Associazione Culturale Art Maiora.
The festival aims to promote a conscious culture of food through shorts and features films, documentaries and animated films. Main themes of the event are taste, culinary art, issues related to a proper nutrition and food production, and then again biodiversity and gastronomic memory as a collective heritage to be preserved.
Food Film Fest is enriched by a lot of events: food and wine tastings, conferences, meetings with farmers and traders belonging to world of food, realized thanks to the collaboration of several local organizations.

During the festival, allow free entry to the film screenings and side events.

Open calls both for foreign and Italian producers, as well as production companies, associations and indies.
It includes the following competitions:
 FOOD MOVIE
Works in any film format. Narrative works that talk about the world of food as an expression of culture and knowledge, as a representative of a social condition, as passion or obsession.
 DOC
Documentary works, in any film format, which develop the main topic on: agribusiness issues, problems related to nutrition, memory of ancient recipes, culinary traditions of a specific territory, production of particular foodstuff, food such as a passion or as a resource, nutritional education.
 ANIMATION
film in which the sketch, the graphic line, the sculpture, the materials take life through different techniques, becoming short and feature animate films, focused on the food.
 SHORT ADV
adv spots that show the food in any form. Marketing and advertising for the world of food.

Terms and rules

Art. 1 – The Organizing Committee of Food Film Fest organizes 7th edition with the aim of contributing to a greater disclosure and affirmation of the values of Culture and Food through the language of movies.
The Festival brings together films and docufilms with the following format: short and long films, documentaries and animated films which explore food through the perspective of art and culture, investigated as an inquiry or a research.
Open calls both for italian and foreign producers, as well as production companies, associations and indies.
It includes the following competitions:
• FOOD MOVIE – works in any film format, narrative works that talk about the world of food as an expression of culture and knowledge, as a representative of a social condition, as passion or obsession.
• DOC – documentary works, in any film format, which develop the main topic on agribusiness issues, problems related to nutrition, memory of ancient recipes, culinary traditions of a specific territory, production of particular foodstuff, food such a passion or as a resource, nutritional education.
• ANIMATION – film in which the sketch, the graphic line, the sculpture and the materials take life through different techniques, becoming short and feature animate films, focused on the food.
• SHORT ADV – adv spots that show the food in any form. Marketing and advertising for the world of food.
Art. 2 – Producers and directors may participate in the competition with one or more films.
Art. 3 – The Festival will take place from 25th to 30th of August 2020. Festival Organizing Committee decide the projecton schedule.
Art. 4 – The Organizing Committee designates the Artistic Direction, responsible for the admission it the competition and the Jury, responsible for awarding or not the prizes to the films.
Art. 5 – If suggested by the Jury, the Organizing Committee has the right to evaluate the correspondence between selected films and the category they have been selected for.
Art. 6 – Jury may award the following prizes:
• FOOD MOVIE – 1st prize
• DOC – 1st prize
• ANIMATION – 1st prize
• SHORT ADV – 1st prize
• Jury’s special prizes (optional)

The award will be given during the awarding ceremony.

Art. 7 – Videos sent to the Jury can not be withdrawn or replaced, except if the Organizing Committee thinks it’s better not to keep them, in the interest of the Festival itself.

The application shall be accompanied with the following documents, by penalty of ineligibility in the competition:

• An unprotected copy of the film digital format (MPEG4, H264).
• Technical and artistic sheet, filled and signed.
• Synopsis of the film, italian and english version.
• 3 photos of the film 300 dpi, coloured or black and white with the free right to be included in promotional materials of the Festival and to be made available to the press (frames, film posters, backstage)
• Trailers are welcome.
Art. 8 – The works for selection should be sent in a digital format (MPEG4, H264) together with the entry form to comunicazione@artmaiora.it or loaded on the platform FilmFreeway no later than 26th April 2020.
Works without the data requested in the application form or contact information will be omitted. All the works submitted to the selection are implicity free authorized for the screening during the Festival.
Art. 8.1 – Subtitles in italian, for foreign films, are mandatory.
Art. 9 – By the first half of July the Organizing Secretary will communicate the result of the selection.
Art. 10 – Insurance transport and delivery costs of foreign films have to be in charge to candidates.
Art. 11 – The filmmaker and/or the film production authorize the publication of their data on the web-site and on the official catalogue and their circulation for the press and for cultural promotional purposes.
Art. 12 – The filmmaker and film production allow the screening of the works, the diffusion (TV, online, cinema) of their films or pieces and the publication of the photos for promotional purposes of the event.
Art. 13 – The Festival Management informs that the material will not be returned. The films submitted for the selection will become part of the Festival Cinematheque, which collects all entries in the various editions of the International Festival of Cinema and has as its goal the preservation and circulation of its film heritage. The circulation of works of the Cinematheque for commercial purposes is forbidden, with absolute prohibition of video playback as well as partial or total sale to third parties.
Art. 14 – The winning films will be broadcast during the Food Film Fest Special TV Show, channel 216 – italian digital terrestrial television – after the Festival, unless explicit refusal by directors and/or film production.
Art. 15 – In order to take part in the competition, candidates must agree completely to this regulation.
Art. 16 – Possible cases and disputes, not covered by this regulation, are pertaining to the Festival Organizing Committee.
Art. 17 – The Organizing Committee reserves the right to make, if necessary, any amendment to this regulation without prior notice.
