Terms and rules

ABSOLUTELY NO PHYSICAL COPIES ARE ACCEPTED FOR SUBMISSION. If film is selected for Flip the Script Festival, an address for mail delivery will be provided.

We define “queer films”, in this context, as projects that include characters, storylines, ideas and/or are directed, produced, or written to subvert the norm of representation. Films addressing LGBTQIA2S+, BIPOC, and people with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply and will receive precedence for programming.

All submissions must be in a visual format of 1080p or greater quality, 24fps, 25fps, or 30fps, and be 1-120 minutes in length. All films must be submitted digitally, via links on Vimeo or Youtube or an attached digital download in MP4, WMV, AVI, Quicktime, or Apple ProRes format. All films should be in their final form. Any films that have a significant amount of non-English dialogue must include English subtitles. Filmmakers must have the rights to their films, and through submitting thereby grant the Flip the Script Fest the right to screen their film.

All submissions received by June 30, 2020 will be reviewed for Flip the Script Festival’s 2020 programming (October 2-3, 2020). After receiving a contract for inclusion, all chosen applicants will need to return a signed copy of the contract to Flip the Script Festival by July 30th, 2020. All applicants will be notified of inclusion or otherwise by July 31, 2020.

If chosen for the Flip the Script Fest, you must mail a DCP for your film on a CRU drive with a DVD, Blu-Ray, or USB drive backup to an address that will be later provided. Consideration will be had for filmmakers who can only make their film accessible through DVD, Blu-ray, or USB drive however this is not the preferred route. Final copies of accepted films must be received by September 1st, 2020, with a daily fee for copies received after. Films received on October 1st, 2020 and after may not be shown due to inadequate time to prepare and test.

The Festival is unable to waive entry fees or provide discounts beyond those indicated. Entry fees are not refundable. You may submit any number of titles; however, a separate entry form, preview copy, and entry fee are required for each title. If the Festival determines a work is entered in the wrong category and needs to reassign it, any discrepancy in entry fees between the categories must be paid by the filmmaker.
