It is important to note that the first round of this competition is held online, via Vimeo On-Demand. The finalists are screened at both our annual Sessions event at Pinewood Studios in August AND they form part of Los Angeles Lift-Off Film Festival screening at Raleigh Studios, Hollywood in the summer.
Guaranteed screening to all submitters for the first round. Each film needs to be the first filmmaking project undertaken by the core production team or the first project undertaken within 5 years of their previous project.
This festival's first round is online, the top 5 films of each programme will be selected by the public, where each online audience member is asked to vote for their first and second favorite. These are weighted equally to remove bias. Each of the top 5 films (the semi-finalists) receive FREE Intermediate Lift-Off membership.
The semi-final is internal where the Lift-Off Judges pick their overall finalist from the top voted films. The finalists are all screened at Pinewood Studios UK AND Raleigh Studios, Hollywood, where an overall winner, who may select a live festival screening of their choice on the Lift-Off Platform (currently eleven cities worldwide).
The Lift-Off Sessions is a monthly online showcase, dedicated to screening the monthly collection of globally submitted indie shorts and features. With the aim to send each programme out to as wide of an audience as possible. The reason this festival is so different from many others is due to our data on declining audience figures for indie film. We decided to extend our resources to cater for an all-encompassing and welcoming platform where everyone can see the type of work and varying elements from as many projects as possible.
Lift-Off Sessions isn't about selecting the best possible shorts or features from the films that are submitted to us, it is about providing a screening opportunity for everyone. An opportunity we hope highlights and educates each and every month.
For you, the Lift-Off Sessions showcase is an invaluable opportunity to see lots of your contemporaries' work, while supporting indie film and its continued success.

How the winners are selected...
With detailed scoring and judging, the most engaged and talented projects are awarded. The festival scoring consists of two rounds:
Round 1: Social Round. The first round is open to the general public, where for the whole week votes are collected on the festival's Vimeo On-Demand page.
Round 2: Internal Judges Round. The top 5 films from the social round will be sent to Lift-Off's Internal Judges, who will go further in-depth and score the films based on multiple aspects. The film with the highest overall score wins.
Round 3. The monthly finalists come together for one screening and workshop event held at the world famous Pinewood Studios, where workshops, screenings, and introductions combine to create a one of a kind celebration of indie film.
