First Take Shorts Series

The First Take Shorts Series is an internet based film showcase that’s dedicated to screening new (and old) short films by talented area filmmakers. We’re interested in showcasing a diverse lineup of some of the best independently produced short films by local filmmakers, who range from students to seasoned professionals. Our bi-weekly live stream is intended to give PA, NJ, DE and NY filmmakers the opportunity to share their work with a large audience.

Sponsored by Renew Theaters, films will be shown and promoted across our four virtual theaters at the Ambler (Ambler, PA), County (Doylestown, PA), Hiway (Jenkintown, PA) and Princeton Garden (Princeton, NJ) Theaters.

Submissions will remain open but are split into annual submissions periods. Current submissions will be considered for one of the Spring 2020 live streams. Films submitted after the current deadline will be considered for the Summer 2020 live streams.

If selected filmmakers will be asked to submit a short 2 - 3 minute video talking about the process that went into making their film.

We are asking for $5 submission fee in order to help our theater's run this virtual program. Renew Theater's mission is to exhibit art as well as showcase independent and world films that offer the community an opportunity to experience a broad range of artistic and alternative expressions.

If your film is selected for one of our live stream screenings then it will have the chance to be a part of our Audience Choice Award poll. If your film receives the most votes in that week’s poll, then it will be featured on the Ambler, County, Hiway and Princeton Garden Theater websites as our official Short of the Week.
