Welcome To The Next Generation of Scottish Film.
Taking place on March 29th at the Centre for Contemporary Arts from 6pm to 9pm, the First Act Film Festival is entirely programmed and delivered by 16-25 year olds, showcasing the imaginative and innovative work of Scotland’s finest upcoming filmmakers.
The night will include exciting guest speakers like Iain Smith (OBE) producer of Mad Max: Fury Road who will answer the question: “How Can We Build Scotland’s First Film Studio?”
The First Act Film Festival will also kickstart the 2016 Glasgow Youth Arts Festival, a wider three week festival of free performances, screenings, exhibitions and creative workshops.
Young Filmmakers Glasgow are the collective behind this exciting showcase of upcoming filmmakers, and aim to create a network that will help Scotland's next generation of filmmakers connect and collaborate. 16-25 year olds from the collective are entirely responsible for the reviewing of over 900 submissions, the securing of guest speakers, and the co-ordinating of the event on the night.
By inviting upcoming and established filmmakers, industry members, and youth arts organisations to join the celebration on March 29th,we hope to create a nation that artists don't have to flee; a place for artists and filmmakers to settle and take inspiration from."
Our second guest speaker John Macphail, director of Glasgow Film Festival hit 'Where Do We Go From Here?' will deliver a talk that questions the notion of Scottish Miserablism, a theme that so often appears in the work of young filmmakers.
The night will end with an awards ceremony, rewarding young filmmakers in the categories of Best Performance, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Film which will be presented by Iain Smith.
A host of exciting guests are set to attend the event from organisations like BAFTA Scotland, BBC The Social, Into Film and the Glasgow Youth Film Festival.
The First Act Film Festival aims to give Scotland's explosive young talent the celebration they truly deserve.
