Festival Film Bahari is designed to give insight and knowledge all about coastal culture and sea life through films. Indonesia as the largest archipelagic country with the second-longest coastal line in the world, rich with various natural resources. The population of Indonesian itself is the fifth largest over the world with 220 million people and 60 percent among them live in the coastal areas. The coastal society forms its own identity as a unique entity with cultural values differs from other areas. One characteristic is the plurality. Throughout history, the coastal area has become a place to witness people pass by doing trade and any kind of maritime activities. It makes the people in the coastal areas are more tolerant of differences such as ethnicity and religion. As limitless as the horizon, sea and its surroundings offer us many things to learn and immerse ourselves in.
Thus, Festival Film Bahari creates several programs aim to capture and raise awareness of the coastal environment. August 2020 is the third year of this festival to be held, located in a small fisherman village of Bondet, Cirebon City, West Java, Indonesia. Our guests and participants are invited to stay in the village houses, experiencing themselves in daily coastal life.
Festival Film Bahari is also a youth-based film festival that offers young filmmakers a chance to enhance their critical thinking skills, showcase their work to a captive audience, and engage experienced learning with local communities.
