1. Location and dates
1.1 The 3rd edition of the contest Non è l’Ennesimo festivalfilosofia will be held within the 20th edition of festivalfilosofia (September 18th-19th-20th, 2020) and will be organized by Ennesimo Film Festival.
1.2 Festivalfilosofia changes the usual looks of Modena, Carpi and Sassuolo for three days, setting up open, communal and widespread places, where education and conversation can happen. During this edition, the keynote lectures of leading figures of both Italian and international cultural scenario will focus on the keyword machines. This term refers to fundamental topics within the philosophical discussion and to crucial experiences of the contemporary condition.
1.3 Ennesimo Film Festival is an international short film festival taking place on the first weekend of May in Fiorano Modenese. It is organized by TILT Associazione Giovanile (TILT Young Association). In the first four editions more than 7500 authors have submitted their works from 128 countries in the world, in order to be part of the Ennesimo Official Selection.
2. Prizes and panel of judges
2.1 The panel’s decisions will be final.
2.2 There will be only one winner for each selected category.
2.3 The following prizes will be awarded: Non è l’Ennesimo festivalfilosofia mention to the best short film of the selection, awarded by a panel of experts in cinema, communication and teaching. The works eligible for this mention will have the machines as main topic, which can be interpreted in many different ways. For instance, it can be referred to the topic of technology and the relationship with thought and ethics, to the future (dysthopic or not), to the relationship between man and robot, to the impact on individuals’ daily life and on society, to machines’ ability to think and to reason, to the changes of production process bound to manual and intellectual work (like the intervention in the world of information), to the changes in social relationships determined by revolutions in knowledge.
2.4 The panel of judges will take its decisions independently from the festival’s organization team and will follow the present regulations. Should it be considered appropriate, and in case the members of the panel asked for it, the festival’s Artistic Director can be consulted to explain matters regarding exclusively technical and regulatory aspects.
2.5 Anyone who has participated in the making or in the selection stage of any of the works will be excluded from the panel of the judges.
2.6 The winner of the Non è l’Ennesimo festivalfilosofia will be announced in September during the 2020 edition of festivalfilosofia.
3. Eligitibility of the works
3.1 Works up to the 20 minutes in length are eligible for the competition.
3.2 Short films from any nation and in any language are eligible for the competition.
3.3 Only works produced after January 1st, 2019 will be admitted to the competition.
3.4 There are no limit regarding the number of works that can be presented, as long as all applicants fill out a relevant entry form for each of them.
3.5 No participation fee is required.
3.6 No music video, advertisement or industrial film will be admitted to the competition.
3.7 All works will be selected by the Artistic Directors and by other members of the festival organization, who form the Selection Committee.
4. Submission of the works
4.1 It will be possible to submit the works through this link.
4.2 The deadline for the submission of the shorts is May 10th, 2020.
5. Selection
5.1 Short films will be selected for altogether 120 minutes of screening at the most.
5.2 Once the works have been selected, all relevant authors and directors will be notified by e-mail within June 20th, 2020.
5.3 Once they are contacted, the shorts’ producers must complete the entry form in full and submit the materials required. Any failure in the submission process entails the exclusion from the competition.
5.4 The selection of the works must be kept strictly confidential until the announcement of the official program of the festival.
5.5 Applicants who have not been selected will not receive any notice from the festival organization. A list of the selected works will be disclosed on the above-mentioned website, in the national press and on our social network pages. The festival will send then a newsletter with the official selection.
5.6 The materials submitted during the selection phase may be used by the press (including online media), which will be in charge of writing articles related to the 2020 edition and by the festival’s organization itself, which is therefore authorized to post the contents on the official website and on social media channels. Audiovisual abstracts of each short - up to no longer than 15 seconds each -, can be used by the radio and by the local television (to create reports exclusively on the 2020 edition of the festival) and also by the organization itself, which will publish the information on the official website and on social media channels.
6. Materials and copyrights
6.1 All materials submitted for the competition will become part of the festival archive and of the TILT Associazione Giovanile video archive.
6.2 Every year, TIL Associazione Giovanile organizes the so-called “Ennesimo Tour” to present the short films to the widest possible audience and the festival organization commits itself to using the materials exclusively for cultural purposes and for events related to the festival.
6.3 In order to protect the rights of the authors and producers involved, no work will be used for commercial purposes. The authors’ consent will be required for any use other than specified herein.
6.4 The festival organization will adopt all necessary measures to protect the copyrights of the works entrusted to it, in compliance with the legal provisions governing audiovisual piracy.
7. Acceptance of the rules
The participation in the festival is strictly subject to compliance with its rules. All applicant are required to guarantee that they are lawfully entitled to submit their materials to the festival. The Artistic Director has the right to settle al the issues that fall outside the rules prevoiusly mentioned and to waive them in specific, well-motivated cases. The festival organization reserves the right to modify the rules (in relations to prizes and dates). Any dispute or claim arising from personal interpretations of the rules will be settled according to the rules specified in the original Italian document.
