The East Coast X Fest is a film and television industry festival created to connect emerging actors, production crew and filmmakers to the resources they need to achieve their dreams. If you want to become a part of the industry, learn more about what it takes to succeed in the industry or simply connect with other industry professionals, than this is one festival you simply can’t miss. Daily workshops, seminars, and panel discussions led by award winning industry professionals are designed to teach you cutting edge techniques and help you perfect your craft. ECX Fest is for filmmakers looking for distribution, producers looking for financing for their next project, actors looking to connect with casting directors and anyone who is a fan of film and television.
The East Coast X Fest caters to adrenaline junkies of all ages. Action sports, comedies, horror, documentaries… anything with attitude; all screen during the most exciting 2 wks of the summer. Set against the backdrop of the largest surf contest on the east coast and taking place in the middle of countless extreme action sports exhibitions, the ECX is not your typical festival. Our film screenings go beyond the conventional theater setting. Movie-goers can choose between indoor and outdoor theaters to enhance their experience. Daily workshops with industry professionals, a kickoff concert on the eve of the festival, several daily screenings and nightly after-parties make the East Coast X Film Festival the most exciting opportunity to feature your film or documentary.

Terms and rules

1. Feature and short films, music videos, webisodes and TV episodes.
2. Each film entry must include entry fee, brief synopsis, list of principles, director's bio, electronic photo, and a DVD (NTSC only) or online screener for preview purposes.
3. We will accept collaborative work, however, each writer must fill out and sign the online entry application and release form. If selected as a winner, it is up to the winners to split the prize money equally between them.

4. DVDs must be clearly labeled with title of film, tracking number and contact information.
5. Films produced in languages other than English must have English subtitles.
6. East Coast X Film Festival will take all possible care in the handling of entries, but cannot be held liable for any damage or loss during shipping, previewing, or screening.
7. Your digital signature on the entry form authorizes us to use your film for marketing purposes on television, in advertising, promotional items and/or news and other programs.
8. If your film is accepted to screen at the festival, you will be asked to immediately forward: stills, an online trailer, a poster and/or one-sheets.8. 9. Entrants are responsible for obtaining any necessary licenses, royalties, release forms, clearances, permits necessary to present their work. East Coast X is not responsible for any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, or royalty infringement related to the work.
10. East Coast X reserves the right to make any necessary changes in regulations or festival scheduling. All submitters will be notified of any regulation or date changes that affect them. Any changes to regulations after a submitter has already submitted would not apply to them.
11. Filmmaker will pay postage.
12. Selected entries will be notified on or before Aug 7, 2014.
13. Submission copies will not be returned.
14. All applicants (s) testify to be at least 18 years or older and warrant as the author of submitted material that they are the sole and exclusive owner(s) of all legal and equitable rights thereto with the full and exclusive rights to submit material to the competition.

We accept features and shorts: short films (40 min/pages or less) and feature films (41 mins or more). Please check appropriate length entry upon checkout. All entrants must submit their entry form and payment online through FilmFreeway. You may then submit your film electronically through FilmFreeway or choose to mail it to our office. If mailing, you must include your FilmFreeway tracking number, film title, and contact information. Address: ECX Film Festival 312 Cavalier Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23451. The competition is not responsible for submissions that are lost, stolen, or damaged in transit. All applicants (s) testify to be at least 18 years or older and warrant as the author of submitted material that they are the sole and exclusive owner(s) of all legal and equitable rights thereto with the full and exclusive rights to submit material to the competition. We will accept collaborative work, however, each writer must fill out and sign the online entry application and release form. If selected as a winner, it is up to the winners to split the prize money equally between them. If mailing your preview material, we only accept films on DVD (NTSC). All other formats will be disqualified. All preview media must be labeled with your entry number, film title, running time, and personal contact information including email address. If selected as Official Selection, you will be notified as to what formats will be accepted for your venue. Please label the outside of your package: FOR PREVIEW ONLY – NO COMMERCIAL VALUE. Your preview material will not be returned, so please do not send master copies. Do not send media kits or other marketing material unless your film has been chosen as Official Selection. Submissions may not be withdrawn once completed, and entry fees are non-refundable. The competition is not responsible for submitted materials that are lost, stolen, or damaged in transit. If submitting your film online, you must do so through FilmFreeway or password protected vimeo.com page. However, all other sites outside of FilmFreeway or Vimeo are ineligible. Submissions may not be withdrawn once completed, and entry fees are non-refundable. Non-English language films must have English subtitles. All submission forms must be filled out through FilmFreeway. Submission materials must be received via postal mail or transmitted electronically via FilmFreeway and the entry fee paid in full through FilmFreeway in order to qualify for the respective submission rate. Online entries may be submitted up until midnight Eastern Time on the final or extended deadline date. Postal entries must be postmarked by the respective deadline. Any entries submitted or payments postmarked after the final or extended deadline will be disqualified. ECX Film Festival reserves the right to extend the entry deadline. All entrants understand and agree that there are a diverse amount of story contexts and ideas, and in no way is ECX Film Festival responsible not now or in the future of borrowing or stealing from an idea, copy written concept, or storyline from an entry. Entry fees are payable by credit card through FilmFreeway. Entry fees are nonrefundable. Each applicant will receive an e-mail notifying them of the competition results. It is the filmmaker’s responsibility to keep their personal contact information that is on file with us and FilmFreeway updated and current. ECX Film Festival has no responsibility for correspondence that is misdirected as a result of writer(s) failure to provide us with current contact information. We also encourage entrants to add ECX Film Festival to your email address list to ensure email correspondence is not sent to spam or bulk mail. All winners are responsible for their own U.S. income tax withholding. ECX Film Festival is not responsible for withholding any taxes or payments to any government agency, at any level, be it state, local or federal. Contest applicants must accept without reservation the decisions rendered by the jurors. If selected as Official Selection, a winner of the corporate award, or grand prize winners, you are responsible for your own personal travel and accommodation expenses if you would like to attend the festival or a production shoot. This award is at the discretion of the festival each year, pending a corporate partner. It is a free bonus category that all entrants are eligible to enter for free as long as they’ve entered a project in at least one other main category, and they submit by the respective deadline. Transfer of Ownership: The winning writer and director of the Corporate Award category understand and agree that participation is completely voluntary. The winners agree that by accepting the prize money as the winners, they relinquish the ownership of their idea, vision, concept, treatment, and script to the ECX Film Festival. The prize money is considered payment in full for the winner’s work, and the winners no longer retain ownership of the submitted work. In addition to the cash prize/payment the winning writer and director receive, they will also get a writing or directing credit in the final Corporate Award production, and a prize package. ECX Film Festival reserves the right to not provide the Corporate Sponsor Award portion of the contest. Please read and understand the above Rules and Regulations & the associated licensing and release agreement found on the FilmFreeway website. By submitting your entry, you expressly acknowledge and agree to be bound by these terms. Failure to adhere to the East Coast X Film Festival guidelines will result in disqualification and forfeiture of an entry fee and/or eligible prize. Please read and understand the Festival Rules, Guidelines, & Licensing Agreement. By submitting your entry (film, script, and/or entry for the separate corporate contest submission) to the East Coast X Film Festival, you expressly acknowledge and agree to be bound by these terms. Failure to adhere to these guidelines or rules & licensing agreement will result in disqualification and forfeiture of an entry fee and/or eligible prize. Entrants permit the East Coast X Film Festival to use their name and/or likeness, contact information provided by participant, title of the work submitted, its logline and their results during the 2014 festival year for publicity and promotional purposes. Through various phases of the judging process, submitted material will be exposed to a network of influential third parties, included, but not limited to those companies and individuals listed on the East Coast X Film Festival website. All such third party participations in the judging process are not guaranteed. The East Coast X Film Festival will provide, though not obligated, applicant’s contact information and submitted work to any interested parties. The East Coast X Film Festival does not attest to or guarantee the validity of any subsequent agreements between applicant (s) and said parties. The East Coast X Film Festival reserves the non-exclusive right to screen and showcase all submitted films during the festival week. All ticket sales and proceeds are property of The East Coast X Film Festival. Applicant (s) indemnify and hold harmless The East Coast X Film Festival, its judges, affiliates, staff, sponsors and partners, individually and collectively, from and against all claims, demands, losses, damages, costs, liabilities and expenses (including legal fees) arising out of or in connection with any and all claims, or third party claims based on stories or films submitted to the East Coast X Film Festival. Entrant expressly acknowledges and agrees that the East Coast X Film Festival shall be entitled to injunctive or other equitable relief (an “Injunction”) to restrain, prevent or enjoin any breach by a contestant under this short film contest, and the contestant hereby waives any right to notice of any action or proceeding for an Injunction and consents to and accepts entry of an Injunction in any court which may have jurisdiction in connection therewith. The prevailing party in any legal proceeding brought pursuant hereto shall be entitled to recover all of its attorneys’ fees and all other costs related to such a legal proceeding. Unless otherwise stated herein, this Agreement shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the United States and the State of Virginia (without regard to the conflicts of law provisions thereof), and the contestant hereby submits to the jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. By submitting my project to the East Coast X Film Festival, I acknowledge that I have read, understand and agree to, and will abide by all the terms and conditions of submission of materials to this competition, which are listed in this licensing and release form, and the rules & guidelines and content sections of the East Coast X Film Festival website. A panel of industry professionals that includes story analysts and filmmakers does the judging. One film enthusiast/audience member will also be represented on the panel. Each film is given a separate identification number, viewed anonymously and then scored with the official scorecard. Scores are based on originality & style, basic writing and production mechanics, plot, characterization/acting, and editing & sound. Once scores are tallied, our judging panel will determine the final Official Selection for the 2014 festival and will view the top 30% again. The official selection will be judged by a Grand Jury through secret ballot to determine the overall winners.
