About the festival

The third annual CreArte Expo Latinx Short Film Awards takes place in Brownsville, Texas. We want to encourage, support and honor emerging Latinx filmmakers and films that have Latino themes. We accept all genres, including sci-fi, fantasy, horror, animation and documentary. We will honor filmmakers whose work exemplifies originality, diversity and creativity.

Films cannot be longer than 15 minutes. The judging committee will review all the submitted films. Judges will select the films that will be honored at the ceremony.

The festival Jury will present one film with the Grand Jury Award. The winner will receive a $1,000 post production services award from DC Creative. The filmmaker can use the grant for their submitted film or for a new film within 6 months of the awards ceremony.

The Brownsville Audience Award for Best Film will be voted on by the audience at each screening. The awards will be announced at the CreArte Expo in Brownsville on March 28 & 29.

CreArte Expo will announce the 2020 recipient of the Spirit Award at the awards ceremony. A pioneer from the film industry will be honored for their work, public service and social justice. Previous CreArte Expo honorees were Joaquín Cosío and Renée Victor.
