About the festival

CINECITY is the South East's largest film festival and has been celebrating cinema in all its forms for 17 years in Brighton and surrounding area. In 2020 CINECITY will present the 18th annual edition of the festival. We are planning a hybrid festival of both online and physical screenings in November 2020.

CINECITY 2020 will have three film submissions categories:

NEW VOICES - UNDER-25s EMERGING TALENT
Supported by Screen and Film School Brighton
Short films (under 15 mins) made by local filmmakers aged 25 and under. We welcome submissions from Brighton & Hove, East and West Sussex.

CINECITY OPEN
Short films (under 45 mins) made by local filmmakers. We welcome submissions from Brighton & Hove, East and West Sussex.

FEATURE FILMS
UK & International film submissions over 45 minutes to be featured in our main programme. Films of all genres are accepted in this category, including experimental.

CINECITY charges a submission fee to cover the submissions viewing team’s time and administration.

Terms and rules

In 2020 CINECITY is taking submissions in 3 separate categories. Please read the below Rules & Terms for the category that applies to your project.

NEW VOICES – UNDER-25s EMERGING TALENT
1. At least two out of three of the main creative team (director, writer, producer) are aged 25 or under before November 2020
2. The producer, director or writer lives, works or studies in Brighton & Hove, East or West Sussex AND/OR a significant part of the film’s production took place in Brighton & Hove, East or West Sussex
3. Films must have been completed since September 2019
4. CINECITY does not require any premiere status, however films are not accepted if they are already available online for public viewing
5. Films must be no longer than 15 minutes
6. All entries must be in English or contain English subtitles
7. By submitting your film, you agree not to withdraw your film from CINECITY after it has been selected by our selection team
8. Submissions also certifies that all film and music rights and clearances have been obtained in accordance with UK copyright laws

CINECITY OPEN
