About the festival

Organized by the Champs-Élysées Film Festival association and chaired by Sophie Dulac, Champs-Élysées Film Festival is the first and only festival in Paris dedicated to French and American films. Its main ambition is to create a bridge between French and American cinema.

The 9th edition of Champs-Élysées Film Festival will be held from Tuesday the 16th until Tuesday the 23th of June 2020.

Built around its independent feature and short films competitions, the festival puts unreleased films under the spotlight, offering a wide look on the latest French and American independent productions.

The program of Champs-Élysées Film Festival presents:

- The Official Selection :

- 6 independent American feature films in competition
- 6 independent French feature films in competition
- 8 to 12 French short films in competition
- 8 to 12 American short films in competition

- Several tributes dedicated to our French and American guests of honor.

- French and American premieres in presence of the cast & crew.
All films will be screened in their original version. American feature and short films will be subtitled in French and French feature and short films will be subtitled in English.

Four Jury Awards with cash prizes:
- Best American Independent Feature Film / 11,000€ cash prize for the French distributor. If the film has no distributor, French distributors will have one year to acquire the film in order to get the cash prize.
- Best French Independent Feature Film / 11,000€ cash prize for the French distributor. If the film has no distributor, French distributors will have one year to acquire the film in order to get the cash prize.
- Best American Short Film / 2,500€ cash prize for the director.
- Best French Short Film / 2,500€ cash prize for the director.

Four Audience Awards
- Audience Award for Best American Independent Film
- Audience Award for Best French Independent Film

Terms and rules

REGULATIONS

ELIGIBILITY

Only films meeting the following conditions are eligible to Champs-Élysées Film Festival’s competition:

- For American feature & short films:
o USA produced or in case of coproduction, a USA-majority coproduction.
o The film must have been completed not more than 18 months before the festival.
o Must not have been shown online or released on DVD/VOD in France.

o Feature films:
> Must exceed 60 minutes
> Must be a French premiere

o Short films:
> Must not exceed 25 minutes (end credits excluded)
> Must be a Parisian premiere (Paris and suburbs)

- For French feature & short films:
o French produced or in case of coproduction, a French-majority coproduction.
o The film must have been completed not more than 18 months before the festival.
o Must not have been shown online or released on DVD/VOD in France.

Films made for advertising, didactic or scientific purposes will not be admitted.
Films admitted in the competition must not – in any way – be available online from the call for entries until the end of the festival. The festival retains the right to disqualify an entry, if these submission guidelines are not met.
Once a film has been selected, it cannot be withdrawn from the festival program during the event.

FILM SUBMISSION
Submission is subject to the payment of a fee: 40 euros for feature films and 15 euros for short films. If you want to register several films, you’ll have to pay fees for every film registered.
Applications can only be submitted through the FilmFreeway Platform.

SELECTION & COMMITMENT
The selection committee will announce the official selection of the 9th edition of Champs-Elysées Film Festival by email, early May 2020 at the latest. The list of each competition will be conveyed/transmitted by email and available on the festival’s website and social networks right after the online announcement. The official selection is confidential and must not be publicly disclosed before the official annoucement.

PROJECTION EQUIPMENT
All information concerning the shipping and the delivery will be communicated later on to the representatives of the selected films.
Champs-Elysées Film Festival covers the storage and the insurance costs for the projection material of the selected films while they are located on the different sites of the Festival, in Paris. In the case of loss or damage of a projection material t, the festival’s responsibility may only be engaged to the extent of the value indicated by the producer on the Technical Data Sheet.

TELEVISION BROADCASTING, INTERNET AND CINEMAS
Entering the Festival implies the authorization, with no extra charges for the festival, to reproduce or air on French TV channels, as well as on cable, satellite, ADSL, and on certain websites, extracts from the films selected by the Festival. These extracts won’t exceed 10% of the total length of the films and will be limited to 3 minutes. They will be only used in reports directly linked to the Festival, TV or web programs, commercials for the festival actual or future editions, and eventually in the making of the festival trailer.

PUBLICATION AUTHORIZATION
By submitting a film, you give authorization to the Festival to use any information and pictures gathered during the registration and publish them on all relevant media such as but not limited to its website or in press releases/magazines. These pictures must be royalty-free and if necessary, the copyright will be needed.

UNFORESEEN CASES AND DISAGREEMENTS
Any film registered and selected for the Festival’s different competitions will not be able to withdraw from the selection after an the right-owner of film has accepted the invitation. If appropriate, the Festival may be untitled to use Justice to claim any compensation needed.

Acceptance of an official invitation from the Festival implies the agreement of the present document. The Association can cancel a registration and take any other measures necessary if the regulations and forms aren’t respected, or if any attitude goes against the smooth running of the event.

For unforeseen cases, the final decision will be taken by the Festival’s board. The French version of this regulation shall prevail.
