1. Eligibility
1.1 Submissions may be fiction, documentary, animation or short films. Only films completed not more than 18 months prior to the Call for Entries of the Cape Town International Film Market & Festival will be considered for competition purposes. Films completed before this time will be eligible for screening but not considered for the competition section.
1.2 Preference will be given but is not limited to submissions that have not been distributed theatrically or screened at other festivals in South Africa prior to the 2019 Festival.
1.3 No Screening Fees for submitted entries that is accepted in Competition Sections.
1.4 South African Entries entered for the South African Awards Section will not have screened at any other festival in South Africa prior to the 2019 edition of the CTIFM&F.
2. Festival sections:
2.1 The CTIFM&F program is generally grouped into ten programming groups;
• World Cinema
• Independent Films
• New Voices (First Feature Directors)
• That’s So Gay (New LGBTQ releases),
• Films on Reconciliation and Acceptance
• Cinema of Conscience that will include films about social and political issues;
• Best of Asia and
• Special Programs (Retrospectives and Focuses)
2.2 The festival reserves the right to program a film that is not selected for the competition sections into the Panorama 360 section of non-competitive films. This will be done in consultation with the Filmmakers.
3. Entry Format & Presentation Format:
3.1 Films with commentary or dialogue in languages other than English must be subtitled in English for consideration. Only online viewing links of films must be submitted No VHS tapes or DVDs.
3.2 If selected for the Festival, exhibition prints may be presented in either Blu-ray disc or DCP (with English subtitles). The Festival will accept other formats on a case-by-case basis and subject to availability of equipment.
4. Entry Deadline:
We appreciate your commitment to CTIFM&F. There is no entry fee until May 10th, 2019 (Early Bird Entries) after that the festival will charge an entry fee until the second and final deadline of July 31st, 2019.
5. Program Selection, Attendance and Awards:
5.1 All entries are viewed and chosen by a Programming Committee appointed by the Festival Director. Final selections are at the sole discretion of the Festival Director.
5.2 The Festival will pay for hotel accommodation for the Director of the film or the Producer who-ever may attend but only for 3 days of the Festival, attendance must be confirmed by August 30th 2019. No air-travel or refund of the travel expenses is provided for the participants attending the Festival
5.3 Awards will be decided and presented by a team of International Jury Members.
6. Notification:
Entrants will be notified of the decisions of the Selection Committee by August 16th, 2019
7. Customs, Shipping & Handling:
Festival Screening copies must be clearly labeled and sent via courier with a tracing number when your film is selected. Do not send exceptional formats other than formats agreed upon. The festival will only pay for courier costs of the film back to the filmmaker/distributor.
Blu-ray discs will not be returned and will form part of the festival library.
8. For international participants:
8.1 The Customs Declaration should state, “Preview copy is for Cultural purposes and Festival consideration and it will be returned to its country of origin and has no commercial value.” The Print Coordinator will contact accepted submissions with specific shipping instructions.
8.2 ALL festival screening prints for selected films must arrive at the Festival Office no later than September 13th, 2019.
8.3 The participant will pay all shipping costs to Cape Town. The Festival will only pay the cost of shipping exhibition prints back to the participant. Please forward your tracking number and name of the film to: entries@filmfest.capetown
9. Insurance:
The Festival will make every effort to ensure the safe keeping of all productions submitted for competition which are in its care or control. Stringent measures are in place to keep all prints safe however, the Applicant assumes all risk of loss or damage and must have films insured.
10. The Jury reserves the right to cancel, vary, integrate awards and mentions and has the authority to suspend the prize in case the winners or their delegates do not participate in the prize-giving ceremony.
11. The Festival Board retains the power to decide on all matters not specifically dealt with in these regulations.
