About the festival

The Brisbane Backyard Film Festival is a celebration of local screen content. This annual event showcases some of the best short films, music videos and movie trailers from around Queensland. So bring your rug, grab a beer, fill-up on delicious food and settle in for a night of backyard entertainment like you've never seen before.

BBFF 2020 will be held on May 16th 2020 at West End Croquet Club (Cordelia St, Brisbane).

Terms and rules

All Queensland short film and documentary productions under 20mins in length are eligible for entry to the short film category. Films produced outside of Queensland, Australia are not eligible for entry. 8 short films and/or docos will be selected.

Films that have been screened previously at other festivals as well as films that are available online are eligible for entry.

If you are entering your short/doco as a REGIONAL QLD Film-maker a discount will be eligible.

If you're a student film-maker a discount of minimum 50% will apply to your entry. (You may need to provide documentation to FilmFreeway to provide eligibility for this discount.)

All music videos and trailer entries are accepted, produced in Australia or Internationally. Up to 8 music videos and up to 8 trailers will be selected to join the program. Music videos and trailers submitted by students are eligible for a 25% discount. Music Videos and Trailers are eligible for cash prizes of $250AUD each.

If your film, music video, or trailer is selected. You must provide a ProRes 1920x1080 Stereo Screener (via dropbox link or similar) to the festival organiser by the 1st of Feb 2019.
