About the festival

The Blue Water International Film Festival celebrates World Oceans Day, June 8th, on the prestigious Martha’s Vineyard at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center. The festival will run from June 4th - 8th, 2021.

The theme of the Blue Water Int'l Film Festival is about our “Big Blue Planet"; the festival's purpose is to encourage attendees to think broadly about how climate change affects planet Earth and deeply about the universal concerns and actions needed to bring us into balance. Roughly 50% of all film selections are non-US productions, helping to fulfill the festival mission of promoting cross-cultural understanding through film.
The Blue Water Int'l Film Festival is an opportunity to celebrate the United Nations World Oceans Day and to bring attention to our beautiful blue planet. Come and join us on June 8th for World Oceans Day.

THE FILMS: The 2021 Blue Water Int'l Film Festival will present a selection of films from around the globe by both US and International filmmakers. Films will be curated from leading environmental film festivals around the globe, with a few surprises thrown in.

CONVERSATIONS: Social Impact is just the beginning. Making our festival unique we’ll bring guests from film, media, politics, and art worlds to celebrate, discuss and debate the films’ issues surrounding our blue planet and what’s at stake.

THE ISLAND EXPERIENCE: Although most of the festival will take place in the village of Vineyard Haven, there will be plenty of opportunities to explore our other Island towns and natural beauty. Martha’s Vineyard is the perfect location for our single-day festival, with its amazing beaches, sunsets, spectacular chefs, unique shops, and a highly influential community.

International Jury Competition – 20 films will be selected from worldwide entries and screened at 2021 Blue Water Int'l Film Festival film showcase. Jury members will select winning film for jury prize (TBA) and presentation at Finalist Showcase program on Thursday, June 8th.
