Bird Skin Co. Student Film Festival is open to students in Los Angeles, California and New York, New York. BSCSFF is both a monthly online showcase of student films and an annual live festival. See below for additional rules & terms.

Monthly Online Showcase:
If you are a student who is 18 or under in LA or NYC, you may submit to the monthly online showcase. At the end of each month (exact dates TBA), 8-12 selected films will be screened live on birdskin.net. See below for details on awards & prizes.

Annual Live Festival:
If you are a student who is 18 or under in LA or NYC who has ALREADY placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th in a Bird Skin monthly online showcase, then you are eligible to submit to the annual live festival. The festival will take place at Studio Enrique Martínez Celaya in Los Angeles, California in June of 2021 (exact dates TBA).

Monthly Online Showcase:
Each month, 8-12 films are chosen to be showcased live on birdskin.net. Of these, there is a Best Picture winner and a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place.

The winner of Best Picture award will receive a cash prize of $100 and will be added to the Bird Skin Co. Network, where they can apply for more funding on future projects, meet/collaborate with other young filmmakers, and submit to the annual live festival.

The 2nd, 3rd, 4th place winners will also be added to the Bird Skin Co. Network. There is no cash prize for 2nd, 3rd, or 4th place winners.

Annual Live Festival:
For the annual live festival, 10-15 films are chosen. Of these, there will be a winner of Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score. For each category, winners will be awarded a trophy, a cash prize, and various other awards to be announced as we get closer to the date of the festival.

Terms and rules

You must be 18 or younger and currently living in LA or NYC to submit.

Monthly Online Showcase:
The submission deadline will always be at the beginning of the month.

- Two weeks after the submission deadline, the showcase line up is released.

- Four weeks after the submission deadline, the showcase broadcasts live on birdskin.net. During the showcase, the winner of Best Picture will be announced, along with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place winners.

Live Annual Festival:
Eligible filmmakers* will have until April 1st, 2021 to submit new or previously shown work to the festival.

- Four weeks after the submission deadline, the showcase line up is released.

- Six weeks after the submission deadline, award nominations are released.

- Eight weeks after the submission deadline, the live festival occurs at Studio Enrique Martínez Celaya, preceded by a reception and followed by an announcement of award winners.

*Eligible filmmakers are those who have previously placed in a top 4 spot in a monthly showcase.
