The Austin Jewish Film Festival seeks to promote cultural understanding and tolerance among the Greater Austin community, encourage artistic development, and entertain our audiences through the medium of Jewish film.
The Austin Jewish Film Festival presents the best Jewish films from the U.S. and around the world to entertain and educate the Greater Austin, Texas USA community and provides complementary programs to enhance the cinematic experience.
Rules & Terms
The 18th Austin Jewish Film Festival will take place between November 7-13in Austin, Texas, USA.
1. Submission Deadlines
Submissions will be accepted from January 1, 2020 through June 1, 2020
2. Submission Format
Films must be submitted via online screener ONLY. We do not review films in other formats. Only one version of the film will be reviewed by programmers.
3. Submission Eligibility
- All submissions must have been completed after 1 January 2019.
- Work-in-progress and films with distribution may be accepted.
4. Premiere Status
- Feature films should be at least Austin, Texas premieres: they must not have been released in the local Austin market in any format, nor screened publicly online.
5. Shipping - for selected films ONLY
If selected your DCP will need to be shipped to Austin, Texas or FTP'ed to our festival. All shipping and postage costs for DCPs and additional materials sent to and returned from Austin JFF must be borne by the submitting party. Austin JFF will not accept Cash On Delivery shipments. Austin JFF will not absorb any customs fees for any international shipments. All charges must be pre-paid.
5. Selection of Films
Submissions are reviewed and selected under the following criteria:
- Relevance to a Jewish film festival (Jewish stories, characters, connection to Jewish values, etc.)
- Quality of narrative and production values.
6. Notification
Austin JFF endeavours to complete all selection procedures by June 15, 2020 and inform all accepted parties, in writing, if their film has been successful at that time. Successful submissions will receive a detailed message that will include important information on shipping the DCP to the Festival, press and publicity, guest accreditation, contact information and how to make the most of participating in the Festival.
7. Festival Screenings - for selected films ONLY
In order to screen at Austin JFF, selected films MUST provide Digital Cinema Package (DCP) OR a high resolution digital file in MP4 or MOV format (H.264 preferred). A backup medium is required for all DCP films - either BluRay or digital file. The film title MUST be clearly labelled on the DCP and Blu-ray. All foreign language films MUST contain English subtitles. Our facilities do NOT support DVD, tape, 35mm, Super 16mm, 8mm or double-head formats.
A selected DCP must be received at Austin JFF no later than 21 days prior to its scheduled screening date.
Austin JFF aspires to provide the best quality projection possible but will not be held liable for any failure in the technical quality of the projection. Austin JFF assumes no liability for damage or loss of the festival DCP or other materials. The submitting party or filmmaker(s) or entrant(s) or print source company is encouraged to insure their media.
8. Scheduling - for selected films ONLY
Screenings are scheduled at the discretion of Austin JFF. Whilst every effort will be made to adhere to the published schedule, Austin JFF reserves the right to make changes at any time for any reason. Austin JFF will not be liable for any costs claimed as a result of a change in scheduling. No film may be withdrawn from the festival program after its selection.
9. Promotion - for selected films ONLY
Selected films must acknowledge that Austin JFF reserves the right to promote the films on Austin JFF website as well as partner websites, email accounts and social media using both images and video that you provide. Submitting party is responsible for clearance rights for all such materials.
