About the festival

Anifilm, much like animation itself, is universal. By its nature, it can mediate the exchange of information, influences and inspirations between film authors, students, dramaturges, film and television professionals or game designers in general. It also integrates graphic designers, scientists, young adults and also art teachers into this sphere. The animation universe has no boundaries and apart from film, television, mobile devices and computer games, it is very useful as an education tool in schools or in science.

Anifilm, as the only event of its kind in the Czech Republic, tries to reflect this field of activity and include all potential groups into the interaction. It uses several methods: a) its film programme with a wide international competition reflecting modern impulses and trends, original topics, retrospectives and unusual perspectives on archive footage; b) industry programme: lectures, meetings, expert introductions and an expert programme including presenting of feature film projects in development, meetings with the authors and workshops.

Throughout its 19-year-history (before Anifilm it was called AniFest), the international festival of animated films in Třeboň has been focusing on this specific audio-visual art. The festival is the only international competition festival of its kind in the Czech Republic. It introduces contemporary trends, methods, technologies and animation techniques. The festival supports well developed as well as brand new animation projects along with their authors, producers and distributors. The festival offers an opportunity for positive confrontation between film professionals from European countries and a chance to establish new contacts, the aim being to preserve and enhance European cultural diversity. It forms a common ground for film professionals, students, pedagogues, film theorists, graphic artists and all the fans of animation (including children). It is organised by the Citizens’ Association for the Support of Animated Film (OSPAF).

Mission

Anifilm’s mission is to present current trends, methods, technologies and animation techniques in its programme. It also supports works in progress and brand new animation projects and their authors, producers and distributors. Film professionals from all over the world can use Anifilm as a platform for positive confrontation and meeting place for forging new contacts. Anifilm is aimed at authors and film professionals as well as students, educators, film theorists and all fans of animated production, including children. Anifilm also wants to represent the Czech Republic in international context on a long-term basis.
