OUR STORY
Africa Human Rights Film Festival (AHRFF) is a registered non-profit organization (NPC No: 2018/360641/08) based in Johannesburg, South Africa, whose mission is to use film to generate robust debate, empower African citizens, raise awareness, and promote respect for human rights across Africa. AHRFF uses cutting-edge human rights themed films as advocacy and awareness-raising tools targeting marginalized communities, national and Africa-wide decision-making bodies. AHRFF creates partnerships between human rights defenders, filmmakers, celebrities, investigative journalists, broader civil society and potential funders for coordinated and concerted efforts to promote human rights awareness in Africa through film.

OUR GOAL
To empower African citizens through awareness raising, foster human rights respect across Africa through the showcase of human rights films and equip young people and human rights defenders through multimedia training workshops
Our Objectives
i) To raise awareness of human rights in marginalized, rural and urban communities through film screenings.
ii) To engage and lobby African political and economic blocs (African Union, SADC, COMESA and ECOWAS) through film screenings and discussions.
iii) To equip young people, women, minorities, and human rights defenders with multimedia skills through training workshops to enable them to tell their own human rights issues through film.
iv) Institutional Development: To raise financial and human resources, and establish relevant institutional structures to deliver on all of the Festival objectives.
OUR ACTIVITIES
a) The Festival will host, on a rotational basis an annual Africa Human Rights Film Festival in different African countries to raise awareness and respect of human rights in rural and urban marginalized communities.
b) Establishing and managing a virtual library of human rights films accessible to the rural and urban communities, civil society and schools.
c) Through partnerships, host the monthly LAST THURSDAY FILM CLUB screenings in various African cities, townships and rural areas raising awareness on human rights issues affecting them.
d) The Festival will screen films during the sitting of key political and governance African institutions to influence respect for human rights and policy.
e) Film screenings to raise awareness on the sidelines of major events such as the Africa Mining Indaba and World Economic Forum.
f) Multimedia skills training workshops for young people in marginalized rural and urban communities.
g) Training workshops for human rights defenders and journalists to optimally utilize multimedia in their work.
h) Use social and traditional media to create an awareness of human and advocate for their respect.
i) The Festival will embark on fundraising activities to support its core objectives, institutional human and technical resources.
j) Staff development will be enhanced through exchange programs and refresher courses.
