In our 7th year of Filmshift, we've expanded to 2 seasonal annual festivals and brought on some new elements to the mix. We are having a Summer Festival at the Aeronaut Brewery community space in Somerville on May 14th, and a Fall Festival, October 15th and 16th at the Somerville Theater's screening room.
The May festival will be a day of films shown in a seated screening area adjacent to the brewery's Taproom bar. The day will segue into an evening celebration featuring a DJ, interactive art displays, films projected on the walls, and mingling, with more surprises in the planning stages.
Our goal is to highlight films of most genres, support the art of film, and support a great cause. Ten percent of our gross ticket sales will be donated to Christopher’s Haven.
We have revamped our panel of judges to include not only film professionals, video production instructors, and indie filmmakers, but also a few folks who are fans of film.
You can apply to either the May or October Festivals or apply to both with a separate entry fee for each.
Some films that we have presented in the past include “Earthwork,” starring Academy-Award nominee, John Hawkes (for “Winter’s Bone,”) Comic Con 2010 winner, “Marwencol,” and “The Burning Season,” narrated by Hugh Jackman.
Ten percent of our gross ticket sales are donated to Christopher’s Haven, a local charity that finds low-cost or no-cost housing for families staying in Boston for their child’s cancer treatment.
