About the festival

18th Oakland International Film Festival
September 17-27th, 2020.

Our theme is "The People". Think of two previous slogans "We The People" which headlines the American Constitution and "All Power To The People" promoted by The Black Panther Party for Self Defense "mixed into this years theme- " The People".

The term "The People" is nothing new. Its been and will continue to be used when groups of people organize and transition from being just individuals, but some form of governance which says "We are here! We demand equality! We demand justice! We can do it ourselves!

During our 10 day event, OIFF18 will showcase films, host parties, conferences, panel discussions centered around the theme of "The People."
Here in Oakland, our daily vision of community development is called Familyhood.
Familyhood defines schools as the center of a communities development. In short, Familyhood is the collaboration of the schools Student Government Association, Parent Teacher Association and Alumni Association.

Familyhood is driven by two motto's 1) Every school shall have a functioning Student Government Association, Parent Teacher Association, and Alumni Association and 2) Every school shall have a garden, a farmers market and a grocery store.

In short, the schools Familyhood plan/manage the school garden, farmers market, grocery store.

Since schools are all over the world, our vision is to connect schools globally.

Our event is to showcase community development from "the people" all over the world.

Join us in September!
